MINDFULNESS
MINDFULNESS Through formal (meditation, body scan) or informal (brushing your teeth, walking, eating) practice, Mindfulness teaches us how to bring our attention to our present moment experience, without judgment. It is not a form of relaxation. By using our senses to acknowledge our thoughts, emotions and surroundings, we can enhance our performance in all aspects of life (e. g. , academics, sport, relationships).
EXERCISE
EXERCISE Regular exercise promotes mental and physical health by improving muscle and bone strength, cardiovascular fitness, weight maintenance, boosting self-esteem and confidence and releasing ‘feel-good’ chemicals such as Endorphins. It is recommended that children and adolescents engage in ~60 minutes of daily physical activity.
NUTRITION
NUTRITION Healthy eating consists of selecting foods that are close to their natural form and limiting those that have undergone some form of processing (e. g. , soft drink, white and refined bread and cereal, high fat deli meats, baked goods). Only 5. 1% of Australians aged between 2 -18 years consume the recommended two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables per day.
SLEEP
SLEEP Sleep is essential for muscle and brain recovery, learning, skill development, health and wellbeing. Light exposure, food and nutrition, device use, air flow, room temperature and physical activity all play a role in sleep quality and duration. It is recommended that adolescents aim for a minimum of 9 hours sleep per night.
