TRANSITION TO THE HAMBLE SCHOOL To the class of 2025, Transition to The Hamble School for you all will be very different to our past Year groups. I want to let you know that we care deeply about you all and want to prepare you as very best we can for secondary school in this unprecedented situation. For you all, we will be trying to best prepare you for your journey at THS by exploring everything virtually. Ordinarily by now you would have had an evening to welcome you all and most of you will have had an assembly at your junior school. GROUPS One of the main differences from junior to secondary school is the way we structure our classes and groups. At secondary school you will be in different teaching groups. You will be in different groups for different lessons. You will follow a 2 week timetable for your lessons. Achieving Excellence Together

TUTOR GROUPS You will be placed in a tutor group when you join THE HAMBLE SCHOOL. You will find out which tutor group you are in during the telephone/virtual meeting. Your tutor will be the most important point of contact for you. You will have a tutor session every morning. Achieving Excellence Together

TUTOR TIME • Tutor time is very important at The Hamble School. • Your tutor will take the register each day at 8: 30 am. • During the tutor session you will complete activities such as: reading, numeracy, British Values and each week you will have a year group assembly. • During tutor you will be given out important notices and information. • It is a time to build a rapport with your tutor and get to know members of your tutor group. HOUSE POINTS AND AWARDS We pride ourselves on our reward system at school We record all reward points on Class Charts, you can achieve reward points for things like: • Tutor awards for things such as attendance, punctuality and have the correct equipment. • Class teacher awards for things such as exceptional effort, contribution to the lesson and doing our Go Further activities. • Over and above by representing the school or being an exceptional member of our community. • At the end of each half term we will come together for a celebration assembly. • At the end of each academic year – we will have a year group celebration for all the students who have achieved excellence. HOUSE COMPETITION • As each of you win reward points this means you are also gaining points for your house. • At the end of each term we will have a house celebration for the winning house. • We hold regular house competitions and encourage everyone to take part. Achieving Excellence Together

TRANSITION PREFECTS • Every year we assign some Year 10 students the role of Transition Prefect. • Every Year 7 tutor group will have 3 -4 transition prefects attached to them. • The transition prefects are there to help support you. • The prefects will be there to answer your questions and act as a peer mentor. ATTENDANCE • Attendance in school is crucial part of your education. • The links between attendance and attainment are undeniable and we encourage students to come to school every day. • We celebrate attendance regularly within school. • Please work with us and come into school every single day. • We reward for 100% attendance during our celebration assemblies. SETTLING IN If you are worried about anything in school you can speak to any member of staff and they will help you. WHAT I WISH I KNEW THEN… How the current Year 7 students felt in Year 6 I was worried about meeting new teachers and new students. I was worried about getting lost around the school and finding my way to lessons. Words of encouragement from our current Year 7 students: I was very worried about finding my way around the school and the older students. I was worried about not having any friends, not fitting in with ups and being late for scholder year groool. Achieving Excellence Together

MESSAGES FROM THE CURRENT YEAR 7 STUDENTS I would say that it is scary for the first few days but you soon get used to it and start to feel at home. Starting at Hamble is nothing to be worried about - it's just like primary school but with more classes! I would say that it is scary for the first few days but you soon get used to it and start to feel at home. The teachers are not as scary as you think! I love it! Achieving Excellence Together
