“Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi.

On the way he asked them, ‘Who do people say I am? ’

They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets. ’

‘But what about you? ’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am? ’

Peter answered, ‘You are the Christ. ’"

He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter.

‘Get behind me, Satan!’ he said. ‘You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men. ’"

How Can it happen?

Answer: “You do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men. ”

Modern Day Hermeneutics (Interpreting Scripture)

Goal: Develop a bridge between two worlds (Achieving the same impact)

st 1 World The Scriptures (Historical Context)

2 nd World Our Current Realities (Current Context)

General Principle When both realities are similar there is a similar application

Modern Day Example 2 Chron 7: 14

“…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face

and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. ”

General Principle

God’s People Repent to receive healings

God’s OT Economy I’ll so bless you that others will see it and desire it (Me)

A critical part of Israel’s Inheritance was the Promised Land (Canaan)

Many modern day people say that if we follow 2 Chron 7: 14 then God will heal the USA.

Is God’s Old Testament economy still the same in the New Testament? (Is land a primary promise? )

Is the USA modern day Israel (the Promised Land)?

No No NO!!!

Let’s not repeat Peter’s mistake

Let’s practice good Hermeneutics by exegeting both Scripture and our Current Realities

Thus avoiding the problem of placing our minds on the things of man !
