Course Description Precalculus combines the trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic techniques needed to prepare students for the study of calculus, and strengthens students’ conceptual understanding of problems and mathematical reasoning in solving problems. Facility with these topics is especially important for students intending to study calculus, physics, and other sciences, and/or engineering in college.

This is not getting the answer from someone else. 3. Groups: Leave no man behind. All or nothing. 4. The struggle is part of the learning process. 5. If you still have difficulty, ask the teacher for suggestions, not the answer.

Scientific calculator (such as the Casio fx-300 ES Plus or the TI-30 XA) or graphing calculator (such as the Casio fx-9750 GII or the TI- 84 plus) (A graphing calculator would be very helpful and can be used in the future. Calculator note There are certain calculators that may be used on the ACT test and certain calculators that may not be used on the ACT test. You will want to keep this in mind when purchasing a calculator for class. The following is from the ACT website. Permitted Calculators You may use any four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator, unless it has features described in the Prohibited Calculators list. For models on the Calculators Permitted with Modification list, you will be required to modify some of the calculator's features. Prohibited Calculators The following types of calculators are prohibited: calculators with built-in computer algebra systems Prohibited calculators in this category include: Texas Instruments: All model numbers that begin with TI-89 or TI-92 and the TI-Nspire CAS—Note: The TI-Nspire (non-CAS) is permitted. However, you will NOT be allowed to use your digital device (and the calculator function) at most times in class. Therefore, you will need a stand alone scientific or graphing calculator. I suggest that you use that calculator on a daily basis so you will be familiar with its operations. I won’t provide instructions about its operation on test day.

The hard copy of many assignments will be converted to a Google Form assignment which is to be completed and submitted online. Should you experience technical difficulties in completing the assignment online, you should turn in the written work (including the scratch work) for the assignment BY THE DEADLINE (due date by 3: 00 PM). Even though you may not be turning in the written work for an online assignment, you are always expected to show your thought process on paper. This helps everyone involved who is looking at your work. Helps YOU—the process is engrained into your memory. Helps YOU—if you make a mistake along the way, you can know what you did. Helps another student—help/understanding of concepts. Helps the teacher—to verify your understanding; to find misconceptions. Be neat and organized. The work should flow.

Daily Work/Tests Students are encouraged to rework online assignments to improve their understanding and grade. The highest grade will be recorded. Students will have multiple days to complete online assignments. Students are advised to begin working on assignments as soon as they become available. This will help prevent missing an assignment due to computer issues, sickness, etc. Since students do not have to be present to submit an online assignment, it will still be due even if the student misses class on the due date. Students are given the opportunity to do test corrections in class. This is an extra credit opportunity.

Student Handbook 2018 -2019 from page 25 Chalkable (i. NOW) Parent Portal: Limestone County Schools provide Chalkable Parent Portal as a communication instrument to parents. This program allows parents/guardians to login to view their student’s grades, assignments, notes from the teacher, and attendance. Each student has a unique ID number and PIN number. This information may be picked up by the parent/guardian at the local school. A Chalkable link is visible on each local school’s website for access to the parent portal. Note: Please get your login information. It is YOUR responsibility to monitor your academic standing.

Student Handbook 2018 -2019 from page 46 Semester Exams A cumulative semester exam is given in each academic course at the end of first semester (Weeks 1 – 18) and second semester (Weeks 19 – 36). Semester exams will count no more than 10 percent of the final semester average. All students are required to complete semester exams in December. A student may exempt May semester exams by meeting one of the following conditions: • 90 or above average with 5 or fewer excused absences for the year, • 80 or above average with 3 or fewer excused absences for the year, or • 75 or above average with 2 or fewer excused absences for the year. One unexcused absence during the school year will prevent a student from exempting the May semester exam in that course.
