Settling into Year 2 What is happening now in each class ? - Children getting to know new adults, new routines and new expectations. - Adults getting to know the children.

Independence In Year 2 we hope children will: - Take responsibility for their own school things. - Become more independent eg. In their work and at playtime.

Daily routine Mornings Each morning children will take part in Phonics, Maths and Literacy lessons. Afternoons In the afternoon they will be taught foundation subjects during theme lessons such as Art, History, Geography, Computing and Science. Weekly Children will be taught RE and PE weekly.

Handwriting Children will continue with cursive handwriting. In Year 2 children will be learning how to join their writing. Cursive handwriting is encouraged in every lesson not just Literacy.

Home learning book and packs Home learning will usually be an activity relating to what the class are learning during Maths lessons that week. Home learning books will be sent out every Wednesday and to be returned by the following Monday. 1 st home learning will be sent out on Wednesday 27 th September. Each child will receive a home learning pack. Inside the pack you will find different Maths resources to support your child at home.

Home learning Spellings Children will receive a new set of spellings every Friday and will be tested on their spellings the following Friday. We will be sending the 1 st set of spellings home on 22 Reading books and reading logs Children will be given a reading book with a new reading nd September. log this Friday. We encourage children to read 5 times a week. Children will be given the chance to change their reading book everyday in school.

Golden books • Each half term your child’s Golden Book will be sent home with a piece of their work • Pupil and parent comments • Progress throughout the year and their time at DCINS
