Opening Hymn: 413 Eternal Father, strong to save (sung by the Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields) 1 Eternal Father, strong to save, whose arm doth bind the restless wave, who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep its own appointed limits keep: O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea. 2 O Saviour whose almighty word the winds and waves submissive heard, who walkedst on the foaming deep, and calm amid its rage didst sleep: O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea. 3 O sacred Spirit, who didst brood upon the chaos dark and rude, who badst its angry tumult cease, and gavest light and life and peace: O hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea. 4 O Trinity of love and power, our brethren shield in danger's hour; from rock and tempest, fire and foe, protect them whereso'er they go: and ever let there rise to thee glad hymns of praise from land sea. William Whiting (1825 -1878)

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All Amen. All The Lord be with you and also with you. Let us pray All Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Summary of the Law Our Lord Jesus Christ said: The first commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord; You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. ’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. ’ There is no other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. All Amen. Lord, have mercy.

Old Testament Reading: Genesis 45: 1 -7, 15 A reading from Genesis: Then Joseph could not control himself before all those who stood by him. He cried, “Make everyone go out from me. ” So no one stayed with him when Joseph made himself known to his brothers. And he wept aloud, so that the Egyptians heard it, and the household of Pharaoh heard it. And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still alive? ” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed at his presence. So Joseph said to his brothers, “Come near to me, please. ” And they came near. And he said, “I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life. For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are yet five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant on earth, and to keep alive for you many survivors. …. And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. After that his brothers talked with him. (ESV) This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm 133 (said alternately by the verse) Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! 2. It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! 3. It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life for evermore. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; As it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

The Gospel: Matthew 18: 21 -35 When the Gospel is announced, the priest says, Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St Matthew. Glory to you, O Lord Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times? ” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy -seven times. “Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything. ’ And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, Continued… ‘Pay what you owe. ’

So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you. ’ He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you? ’ And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart. ” This is the Gospel of the Lord All Praise to you, O Christ Sermon: Fred Schonewille

ACT OF REMEMBRANCE Minister: Let us remember before God and commend to his safe keeping, those who have died for their country in war; and all who have lived and died in the service of the peoples of the world. Then will be said: All: They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them. Here follows: The silence Then will be said the Prayer of Commemoration: Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life: hear our prayers and thanksgivings for all whom we remember this day; fulfil in them the purpose of your love;

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of Intercession (we kneel or sit) The intercessor prays: Lord, in your mercy We respond: Hear our prayer And at the end: Merciful Father We all say: accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

Confession and Absolution Priest God so loved the world that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins, to be our advocate in heaven, and to bring us to eternal life. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all. All Almighty God, Silence our heavenly is kept Father, we have sinned against you and against our neighbour in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen.

The priest says Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy upon you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all goodness, and keep you in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All Amen. The Peace (we stand) The peace of the Lord be always with you. All and also with you. All may exchange a sign of peace.

Offertory Hymn: 537 O God our help in ages past (sung by the Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields ) 1 O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home; 2 Under the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure; sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defence is sure. 3 Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame, from everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same. 4 A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone; short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun. 5 Time, like an ever-rolling stream, bears all its sons away; they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day. 6 O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, be thou our guard while troubles last, and our eternal home. Isaac Watts (1674 -1748)

Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you. All And also with you. Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All It is right to give thanks and praise. It is indeed right, it is our duty and our joy, at all times and in all places to give you thanks and praise, holy Father, heavenly King, almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. For he is our great high priest, who has loosed us from our sins and has made us to be a royal priesthood to you, our God and Father. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name,

Sanctus and Benedictus Holy, ho-ly Lord, God of power and might, hea-ven and earth are full of your glo-ry. Ho -san-na in the high– est! Bless- ed is name of the Lord, he who comes in the Ho- san-na in the high–est!

All glory be to you, our heavenly Father, who, in your tender mercy, gave your only Son our Saviour Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption; who made there by his one oblation of himself once offered a full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice, oblation and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; he instituted, and in his holy gospel commanded us to continue, a perpetual memory of his precious death until he comes again. Hear us, merciful Father, we humbly pray, and grant that, by the power of your Holy Spirit, we receiving these gifts of your creation, this bread and this wine, according to your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood;

who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. Great is the mystery of faith: Christ has died: Christ is risen: Christ will come again.

Therefore, Lord and heavenly Father, in remembrance of the precious death and passion, the mighty resurrection and glorious ascension of your dear Son Jesus Christ, we offer you through him this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith in his blood, we and all your Church may receive forgiveness of our sins and all other benefits of his passion. Although we are unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer you any sacrifice, yet we pray that you will accept this the duty and service that we owe. Do not weigh our merits, but pardon our offences, and fill us all who share in this holy communion with your grace and heavenly blessing; through Jesus Christ our Lord, by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of[Silence the Holy is Spirit, kept] all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father,

The Lord’s Prayer Let us pray All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Agnus Dei Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mer - cy on us. Lamb of God, you take a-way the sin of the world, have mer - cy on us. you take a-way the sin of the world, Lamb of God, grant us peace.

Prayer of Humble Access All We do not presume to come to this your table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

The Administration of Communion An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You offer yourself to us in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come spiritually into my heart. I embrace You, believing You are already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Communion Hymns: 355 I vow to thee my country (sung by the Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields) I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love: the love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, that lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; the love that never falters, the love that pays the price, the love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; we may not count her armies, we may not see her King; her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; and soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, and her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace. Cecil Arthur Spring-Rice (1859 -1918)

384 Be still my soul (sung by the Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields) 1 Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side; bear patiently the cross of grief and pain; leave to your God to order and provide; in every change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul: your best, your heavenly friend through thorny ways leads to a joyful end. 2 Be still, my soul: your God will undertake to guide the future as he has the past. Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake, all now mysterious shall be clear at last. Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know his voice, who ruled them while he dwelt below. 3 Be still, my soul: the hour is hastening on when we shall be for ever with the Lord, when disappointment, grief and fear are gone, sorrow forgotten, love's pure joy restored. Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past, all safe and blessèd we shall meet at last.

Closing Hymn: 368 All my hope on God is founded (sung by the Choral Scholar of St Martin-in-the-Fields) 1 All my hope on God is founded; he doth still my trust renew. Me through change and chance he guideth, only good and only true. God unknown, he alone calls my heart to be his own. 2 Human pride and earthly glory, sword and crown betray his trust; what with care and toil he buildeth, tower and temple, fall to dust. But God's power, hour by hour, is my temple and my tower. 3 God's great goodness ay endureth, deep his wisdom, passing thought: splendour, light, and life attend him, beauty springeth out of nought. Love doth stand at his hand; joy doth wait on his command. 5 Still from man to God eternal sacrifice of praise be done, high above all praises praising for the gift of Christ his Son.
