Arrival and Dismissal Arrival • 8: 50 - Students begin to enter the building. • 8: 35 -9: 00 Breakfast • 9: 05 Homeroom begins. • Please follow the traffic pattern for the safety of our children. “Kiss and Drop”- It is recommended that children sit behind the driver for a safe exit. • If your child arrives after 9: 05, parents must come in to sign their child in. Dismissal • 2: 45 -Please notify the office in writing if you will be picking up your child early or there is a change in your child’s regular dismissal procedure. • Drop-in for Springboard- Note needed • Early Pick-up-Bring ID • 3: 03 -Students return to homeroom to begin dismissal. • 3: 10 - 3: 20 -Students begin to move to the cafeteria/gym to board buses. • Students may only ride their assigned bus.

Conflict vs. Bullying • Excellent information on the district website on the NJ Anti-Bullying Legislation. • Consider if what your child may be experiencing in peer relations, is a conflict which may be a result of students branching out and meeting new friends, expanding their interests in the 4 th and 5 th grade or if it is bullying • Seek support from the school if and when the need arises for assistance /peer mediation/ conflict resolution/ or report of Harassment, Intimidation or Bullying. • We are all working together to ensure a safe and nurturing school climate so that your child’s learning and achievement can take place each day.

SAMSEL UPPER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TH 4 TH 5 AND GRADE SPECIALS

4 th & 5 th Grade Technology Mrs. Ebbighausen – 4 th Mrs. Pacansky – 5 th Students have technology every other day for 2 marking periods. (If they have it now they’ll also have it 3 rd marking period. If not they’ll have it 2 nd & 4 th marking periods. ) Students will be graded on projects, tests/quizzes and homework/class participation. This year we’ll work on Google projects, Internet safety, multimedia projects, typing skills and computer coding. We’re looking forward to a great year! Grade 5 Music – Mrs. Coleman Grade 5 Music covers: • Rhythm reading and playing • Note reading and playing • Different styles of music, such as classical or jazz • Guitar (basic strumming and chording) • Demonstrating understanding of concepts thorough playing/participation • Classroom paperwork (minimal) • Grading is based on participation and demonstration of skills

Instrumental Music is being offered to 5 th grade students only. Instruments taught are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone horn and percussion (drums). More information is available from Mrs. Coleman in the Music Suite during specials visitation time.

Grade 4 Music and Grade 4 & 5 Chorus – Mrs. Wells Main goal is to expose students to a variety of musical styles, to give them tools and vocabulary to be able to experience this music, and to foster a life-long love of music Class activities include: singing, playing, listening to, and reading music of many different styles and cultures Grades are based mainly on active participation in these activities: Students will have a few performance assessments, and in-class assignments, but the final grade will be based mostly on weekly participation grades. Chorus --We have both a 4 th grade and 5 th grade chorus -- Chorus rehearses one period, once a week -- This will be scheduled on a rotation, so that they miss just 1 period of a class once every other week --We sing a variety of music, and learn technique to encourage healthy singing --We will have two concerts during the year, one in January, and one in May.
