Welcome to the World By Morgan Kosola
Morgan Irene Le Kosola To this day I do not know how true this is, but regardless, there is a silly joke of how I got my name that will stay with myself and my family forever. When my parents were deciding on a name for me, my mother wanted to pick a name that was different. She didn’t want there to be anyone else with the same name as her one and only little girl. She thought of a few names, until she saw my first photo and simply just loved how the name Morgan sounded when she looked at my chubby baby face. Now, by dad however thought it would be funny to come up with the name Jersey, as in a Jersey cow, because he figured a cow name would go well up against a type of horse name. He must’ve thought he was so clever… Today I think he This is the first photo my mother
The Big Day I was born on June 17 th, 2002 in Yulin, Shaanxi Province, China. On June 30 th, 2003, I was adopted in Xian, Shaanxi Province by my two lovely parents, Wendy and Lyle. In March 2003, my parents got the call that there was a baby girl waiting to be adopted by them and that they could come get me in the following April. Unfortunately, this date got pushed back multiple times due to the SARS breakout during the time.
First day with mom and dad My mother tells me the first time they met me, she and my father had all sorts of emotions. She was very excited because she was about to have a little girl of her own, but she was also scared because I was already 1 year old and there was no one available to guide them with what milestones I had already reached. She didn’t know if I could do things such as
After a 14 hour plane ride, the three of us arrived in Canada at the YVR airport on July 11 th, 2003. Upon
Home Sweet Home • I was soon introduced to a little blue townhouse in Port Coquitlam, my new home. I did not have any siblings so of course, all of the attention was dedicated to me. However, my parents did have a pet ferret named Taz who was kept in another room until they felt I could meet him. I slept in my crib in my own room where the walls were painted blue and were decorated with Winnie-the-Pooh wallpaper and stickers. I remember when I was a baby, I would reach up and play with the switch that hung down from
The First 6 Months During the first 6 months, my parents did everything they could to make sure I was settled in nicely. This didn’t take very long. They started introducing me to family members which I can imagine was probably a little bit scary for me. They spent lots of time playing with me and getting to know me. Because I was living in an orphanage for my first year, I was a little bit behind on the milestones another baby at my age might’ve
My First Year in Canada My parent’s experiences were a little bit different during our first year together compared to parents of a newborn baby. I was already 1 year old, so as my mother puts it, I already had some sort of a personality when she met me; I did more than just eat, sleep, and poop. They were able to engage and play with me more and learn so much about me; what made me laugh, what foods I liked, what scared me etc. As I mentioned before, I was a little bit behind in the milestones other babies my age would’ve reached already, so the first year mainly consisted of helping me reach those milestones.
SPECIAL MOMENTS At 13 months, I would ”babble” on my toy phone. At 16 months, my favourite words were mama, nack (snack), & baba (bottle). The first time I rolled over and sat up I was about 13 months, I started crawling shortly after this and took my first steps at 15 months. I was kept on formula for 2 -3 months after the adoption because I had rickets, other than this, I loved my bottle, animal crackers, grapes cut in quarters, and when I was a little bit older my mum and I would eat chocolate pudding with fruit like fondue. I had my Ducky when I first came to Canada, shortly after this I found love for my Bunny along with Blankie. Favourite books/songs: Sharon, Lois, and Bram
