WELCOME TO THE SUNRISE ANNUAL TITLE I MEETING 2020 -2021
Goals of this presentation: *Provide parents/guardians with information about Title 1 Programs. *Provide parents/guardians with schoolwide focus goals. *Provide parents/guardians with an opportunity to give input and/or ask questions.
Goals of Title I • Increase academic achievement • Provide direct instructional support to students • Provide professional development for teachers • Promote parent education and involvement • Support student needs (academic and social/emotional)
Information about Title I ❖ Schools who qualify receive federal funding (Title I money) to supplement the school’s existing programs. These dollars are used for… ➢ Intervention for academic and behavior ➢ Purchasing supplemental staff/programs/materials/supplies ➢ Conducting parental Involvement meetings/trainings/activities ➢ Recruiting/Hiring/Retaining Highly Qualified Teachers
Requirements for Title 1 ❖ At least 40% low income student population-identified by Free/Reduced lunch #s. ❖ Conduct a Comprehensive Needs Assessment. ❖ Identify primary needs and develop specific strategies and action steps to address those prioritized needs. ❖ Create an integrated action plan based on the CNA and primary needs. ❖ Align Budget with Primary needs for school. ❖ Monitor the integrated action plan to ensure successful academic achievement for ALL students. ❖ Conduct an annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the School-wide Program.
Examples of budget items we use title funds for at Sunrise… ❖ ❖ ❖ ❖ Instructional Coaches to support teachers Reading specialists to support student literacy Supplemental materials in reading and math Conferences/trainings for teachers Parent Liaison to support family needs Parent engagement events such as literacy, science and math night RTI-B specialist to Social/emotional learning needs of students and families PBIS supports to encourage positive behavior
Goals for Sunrise for 2020/2021… ❖ ❖ Social/emotional supports for students and families (use of district curriculum while virtual and brick and mortar, school counselor, district social worker) Academic supports for students while virtual and brick and mortar (small group instruction to meet individual needs, use of reading specialists, instructional coaches for teacher support)
Parents, We NEED YOU! ❖ Decades of research show that when parents are involved students have: ➢ Higher grades, test scores, and graduation rates ➢ Better school attendance ➢ Increased motivation, better self-esteem ➢ Lower rates of suspension ➢ Decreased use of drugs and alcohol ➢ Fewer instances of negative behavior
How can you get involved? Rights of Parents to be Involved Ask for meetings and trainings. ❖ Review the results of annual parent involvement effectiveness survey. ❖ Make suggestions for Title I funding. ❖ Review the school’s achievement data. ❖ Review the parent involvement plan. ❖ Review and modify the Title I Parent Involvement Plan and Home/School Compact. ❖ Review teacher qualifications ❖
