Peer Mentors Mission Statement Peer Mentors provide a strong intellectual and social foundation for incoming students that will enhance their personal and professional growth throughout their education. 2

Goals of Program • • • Promote unity among class years Encourage involvement in clubs and organizations Provide a support network for entering students Adjunct to academic advisors and faculty advisors Mentoring and leadership opportunities for students 3

Mentoring Program Events Mentors & Mentees • • • Ice cream social Welcome Fest Bingo and brownies Trivia night Bagels after the first exam Pizza & wings night Mentors Only • Training in mentoring skills • Training in academic regulations and campus resources • Career & Peer Mentoring Forum 5

What is Expected of Mentors Contact mentees before start of classes Make mentees feel welcome and connected Attendance at training session each semester Keep in touch with assigned mentees throughout semester • Fill out “Mentor Reports” every month • Attend at least 2 program events • • 6

Program Update for 2011 - 2012 • • ~ 40 Mentors You will have at least 2 Mentees Required attendance at some program events More training and contact with Mentors 8

Application Process • Applications will be emailed to all participants tonight • Applications will be competitive 9

Selection Process • Applications will be reviewed blind by the Coordinators • May have a wait list of Mentors 10
