THE JOURNEY • In March 2015, CEOs across the state began conversations around opportunities for Ys to collaborate, leverage our brand enhance member value. • Discussions lead to the Y’s desire/need for membership reciprocity. • Partnered with Daxko for the technology base data. • CEOs voted in May 2015 – all but 1 Y are participating. • Marketing materials, manual etc. , available on North Carolina Alliance website. • Training to be held every 6 months with a recording of the training available on Alliance website. 4

MEMBERSHIP RECIPROCITY - REMINDER Purpose: To enhance member value by providing increased access to all Y facilities in North Carolina. Initiative Goals: • All one movement – support the brand. • Increase healthy living opportunities for members. • Expand membership & increase retention. • Increase member loyalty. 5 • Keep it simple (for staff & members).

CURRENT PARTICIPATION NEW ENGLAND STATES: OVER 1 MILLION VISITS IN THE LAST 4 YEARS. SEVERAL OTHER YS HAVE RECENTLY ADOPTED MEMBERSHIP RECIPROCITY OR ARE IN DISCUSSIONS. NATIONWIDE MEMBERSHIP RECIPROCITY WILL OPEN YS TO MANY OPPORTUNITIES! 10

RECIPROCITY FUNDAMENTALS • Written agreement signed by every CEO that outlines initiative details & intentions. • The agreement is valid for full facility members. For the purpose of this agreement Silver Sneakers & Silver & Fit are not considered eligible for participation in Reciprocity. • Membership should be purchased at the Y the member will be using most often-defined as 50% of the time. • If member/member family are using two Ys equally, they should join the Y in their “home” community”. • The agreement is intended for standard facilities. Program discounts are for home Y members only. Visiting members may sign up for classes at the program member rate. Exceptions will be posted on individual association websites. 16

RECIPROCITY FUNDAMENTALS • A visiting member must present a valid membership card and photo ID upon their FIRST visit • Visitors must fill out a member waiver form or or a standard membership application form with liability waiver on their FIRST visit. • All YMCAs are entitled to restrict access to reciprocal members for behavior reasons. • Ys will need to place membership reciprocity information on the website and members will be directed to the website to see visiting Ys hours of operation and exceptions etc. Please use language provided for consistency. • No solicitation of donors 17

RESTRICTIONS • “All In” with NO VISIT restrictions! • Program/facility restrictions may still apply (i. e. child watch, cycling class for capacity reasons) – BUT please limit & list on home website. • Encourage your members to check visiting Y website (which administrators maintain). 18

NON-PARTICIPATING YS Ys that are participating as of October 1 st, 2015: almost 100% AWAY Program still exits for members from outside North Carolina and can also be utilized to visit those Ys not participating. 19

UTILIZATION AND ABUSE How to recognize potential overuse? • “That guy is here every day!” • New visit counter • Utilization reports What constitutes abuse? • Determined by each Y • Over 50%- data can verify this 20

MANAGING POTENTIAL ABUSERS • Home Y identifies overuse and addresses with visiting Y. • Home & visiting Y come to agreement on how to resolve issue • Speak to member (explain program/not intended to convert) • Recourse with true abusers – block in system – home Y takes action • A reciprocal member can be blocked for behavior reasons. 21

MANUAL - How to: • read reciprocity reports • handle reciprocal members bringing guests • handle group memberships • terminate a sex offender 22

ADMINISTRATOR ROLE One contact for each Y association – you are the Key to our success!
