JOLLY PHONICS Jolly Phonics is a fun way of learning sounds. Each letter sound has an action. So far we have learnt, s a t p i n m o c k. We practise them every day!

DIGRAPHS AND TRIGRAPHS Later we will be learning as Year 1 are, 2 letter and 3 letter sounds. Digraphs are ai ar ee or er ie ng nk etc A trigraph is as in igh in high or ear in tear.

SEGMENTING AND BLENDING We have already started to segment and blend with the sounds we have learnt so far. We use our fingers to segment. We use a swish to help us blend! Children sometimes find it hard to blend the last sound. e. g pin becomes pit / pid /pig

TRICKY WORDS Tricky words are words that can not be segmented or blending. They just have to learn them by sight. So far we have learnt, I and a, to. Later we will add words like, the, no etc.
