COMPETITIONS
TMSCA/UIL • Four subject areas: Number Sense General Math Calculator Applications Science • Three competition levels (UIL) District Region State We are currently the back-to-back winners of the state sweepstakes in both TMSCA and UIL.
UNIVERSITY CONTESTS • Rice University • Texas A&M • University of Houston
AMC (AMERICAN MATH COMPETITIONS) • AMC 10 • 9 th and 10 th graders encouraged • AMC 12 • 11 th and 12 th graders encouraged • AIME • Offered to students who perform well on the AMC 10/12 • USAMO/USAJMO • Offered to the top performing students on the AMC and AIME
MANDELBROT • Individual Contest(November-March) • Five 40 -minute tests spread out throughout the year • Problems are non-calculus topics like algebra and number theory. • Team Contest (January-March) • Teams of four people complete short answer and proof-style questions. • Competition lasts one hour
RULES, GUIDELINES, AND ACTIVITIES
BI-WEEKLY PROBLEM SETS • 10 questions taken from UIL/TMSCA/AMC tests will be posted to our website. • Answers will be posted; solutions will be discussed every other Friday during practice.
TOURNAMENT REQUIREMENTS • Tournaments are a personal decision.
TOURNAMENT ELIGIBILITY • One in-class practice test for a subject grants eligibility for that subject in tournaments throughout the year • Must be taken before attending your first tournament.
PRACTICES • At home or in-class • No set requirement • Food/Drinks available on occasion • The more you practice, the greater the chance of being selected to the TMSCA state team.
GRADES • No requirement unless you want to compete: • Non Math/Science courses— 80 or above • Math/Science courses— 85 or above
CLUB FEES • $40. 00 • Covers T-Shirt price and the cost of every tournament you attend*.
FORMS • Can be found on the website and will be emailed out. ALL FORMS ARE DUE BY NEXT FRIDAY (SEPTEMBER 13 th).
DULLES TOURNAMENT • Will be held November 23 rd. • MANDATORY for every member to volunteer and donate food. • More information forthcoming…
