National Hispanic Heritage Month September 15 to October 15 --Recognition of the contributions of Hispanic and Latin Americans to the heritage and culture of the United States--

Richard E. Cavazos v. Texan and Mexican-American Richard E. Cavazos was the first Hispanic person to become a four-star general in the United States Army. v. He graduated from Texas Tech University and went on to serve in the Korean war as the commander of the 65 th Infantry Regiment. v. He then served in Vietnam as commander of the 1 st Battalion, 18 th Infantry Division. v. White Cane Safety Day is a national observance in the United States, celebrated on October 15 of each year since 1964. The white cane is a symbol of blindness, but also a tool of independence. The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired.
