Behavior is a choice so choose wisely.

Asking questions and Procedures

What do I need to do if I have a question to ask? • Raise your hand wait SILENTLY to be acknowledged. (Don’t shout out) • Once we call on you, ask your question. • Wait until we respond to your question before you began to talk. We want to hear your questions, but we can only answer one question at a time.

Procedures Entering the room • • • Please enter SILENTLY Have a seat Take out your materials Begin assignment on the board If you finish early, wait SILENTLY

Getting your attention/Quieting down • Various Ways You will 1 st- Clear you hands of materials 2 nd- Stay still 3 rd- Look directly at me 4 th- Be prepared to listen to what I have to say to you. • I’m trying to get your attention • I will begin to speak

Using the bathroom/water fountain • When you need to use the bathroom, use the signal • Bathroom and drinks are done at the same time!! • You MUST take a pass with you and sign yourself out.

Getting a Tissue/Throwing out Garbage • If you need a tissue, simply place your hand over your nose. • Once the teacher says ok, get up and get a tissue without disturbing others and sit back down. • If you are at your seat and have garbage, just put it in the corner of the desk and someone will come around to collect it • Or you can throw it out at the end of class

Going to the Nurse • You can only go to the nurse if it is an emergency • If you need to go to the nurse, please use the proper hand signal • You MUST take a pass with you

PENCILS • Please come to school prepared to work. • Sharpen 2 pencils to use throughout the day. • If both pencils break, raise your pencil in the air to get a different one.

Desks • Since you are switching classes, other people will be sitting at the same desk as you. • You CAN’T leave anything in the desk • You MUST keep the desk clean • You share the desk with at least two other people!!

Moving from Class to Class • You will be switching for ELA, Math, Sci/SS, and RTI math and ELA. • When you are told by the teacher to switch, you line up at a 0 level! • You wait at the door or designated spot until a teacher tells you to enter. • Sometimes directions are given in the hall, so you must be at a ZERO level! • Then follow the entering the classroom procedures.

Exiting the room • Make sure that the desk is cleaned of any materials. • Look around the desk and pick up any trash from the floor. • Take all the materials that you will need for your next class. • Line up in order at a ZERO level. • No one should ever talk while in the line.

Standing in line • Always look ahead of you • Standing in line is NOT THE TIME TO TALK WITH FRIENDS OR OTHERS THAT PASS YOU BY. • Always make sure you are at a ZERO level (SILENT), you need to be able to listen to the instructions.

Turning in Homework • You will bring your homework into homeroom from your locker in the morning • You will place it in the correct bin/slot for each subject

Fire Drills/Lockdown • If there is a fire drill, you stand up and push in your chair and move towards the door (all done SILENTLY) 0 LEVEL • When the teacher says it is okay to exit, you go into the hall and follow the route to outside. • When outside, you must still be SILENT so you and the teacher can hear further instructions if necessary.

Visitors or the Phone Ringing • If someone comes to the door to speak to the teacher, please remain quiet and on task • If the telephone rings, the same procedure would take place • It can be very difficult to hear if everybody else is talking and making noise

While in the hall by YOURSELF • If you need to use the bathroom or go to the nurse or run an errand for a teacher, then you need to be a model student in the hall. • That means: NO running, NO shouting, NO fooling around, NOT making stops to talk to a friend • You are to walk SILENTLY to your destination and back • DO NOT ruin the hall pass

Entering and Exiting the cafeteria • You are always to enter the cafeteria quietly. • We will dismiss you from the cafeteria. • DO NOT GET UP from you seat until we tell you to do so.

Locker Use (2 times a day ONLY) • Put all headgear, electronic devices (CELL PHONES), and hoodies in lockers first thing in the morning. (They stay there ALL day. ) • Gather necessary materials needed for all classes. • End of day, gather all materials for homework.

Special Guideline • This classroom is a “No Whining Zone. ” That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. • This is a time for you to receive an education that will help you achieve your future goals. • This is, however a “ Learning Zone”. You will be able to learn in a classroom that is caring and respectful.

Rule Infraction • You will complete a “Think about it” sheet to tell us what you could of done different. • Remember your behavior is your responsibility.

Not following the rules • Remember behavior is a choice. • Your choice has positive and negative consequences. • Behavior chart will help see what choices you are making. • We will follow the steps of the behavior chart- Remember we are not responsible for your choices, YOU ARE.

Attendance • It is very important that you come to class! • If you come to school after 8: 20 , you are late! • It is very important that you come to school on a daily basis. If you miss school then you miss out on learning variable information.

When you are tardy • Enter quietly • Place the tardy slip on the desk • Your tardy slip must have the time you arrived. • Have a seat and take out your materials.

Make up work • If you are absent it is YOUR responsibility to make up the work you missed. • All materials will be in the “missed assignments” folders. • If it is not made up and turned in on the assigned date, your grade will be a zero. • Tests/quizzes will be made up the following day. • You have 24 hours to make up all work.

Grading Scale • • 90 -100% 80 -89% 75 -79% 74% or less Outstanding Progress Above Average Below Average Failure

Grades v. Classwork- 30% v. Notebooks/ Projects- 25% v. Tests/ Quizzes -20% v. Participation - 15% v. Homework – 10%

Conduct and Effort • Conduct is your behavior in class. • Effort- how much intensity you put into class including homework, classwork, tests, and participation. • Conduct and effort can have a positive or negative affect on your learning.

Classroom Materials • Use classroom materials with care and respect. • Put things back where they belong. • Ask permission to use materials that do not belong to you.

Finish Classwork Early What do I do next? Activities ü Work on unfinished assignments/missed work. ü Work on “may do” work ü Review vocabulary words/ spelling words ü Study math facts

Homework • It is your responsibility to do homework everyday! • Homework helps you learn and improve on the lessons we are learning on our class. • You will be given a reminder, remember your in 6 th grade now, this should be a routine for you.

Interactive Smart Board • You are NOT ALLOWED to touch the smart board screen without permission. • Failure to follow these rules will cause you not be able to use the smart board in our classroom.

Computer Lab • You are to always enter the computer lab quietly. • DO NOT USE THE COMPUTER UNTIL we instruct you to do so. • You need to listen to the learning activity for the day. • Always follow our classroom rules while at the computer rules. • Failure to adhere to these rules will cause you not to participate in the computer lab for the activity for the day. • Your work must be complete in order to use the computers in lab, and or in class.

We are all here for YOU- for you to succeed and to enjoy this class. Because we care about each of you, we are here to help you. So we will not allow you to do anything that will interfere with your success in this class. We are your teachers, we look forward to being your teachers this year. We have an exciting year planned for you. We are proud to be your teachers. So relax you are in good hands. We believe in all of you, and you can be successful in school.
