Some Top Tips: n n n Parent Check-ins: *Ask to see your child’s homework once in a while. *Ask your child to show you their Mathspace tasks once in a while. *Have your child explain to you how to solve a few problems as review before a quiz or test. Students’ grades are posted on Power School, check in periodically, but not too often. E-mail is the best way to contact me: esena@bhpsnj. org

Typical day in math n n Notes and models of new content in workbooks. Look for Lesson Summary pages. Workbook pages and supplemental worksheets for practice. Students will work in groups, in partners and independently, depending on the day. Homework assigned almost daily, practicing the content of the day.

Topics covered Geometry: area, surface area, volume. n Ratios, Rates, and Proportions. n Application of decimal and fraction operations. n Working with patterns, formulas and functions. n Solving equations and inequalities, and working with algebraic expressions. n Collecting, organizing and displaying data. Identifying statistical landmarks of given data. n Working with rational numbers, integers, absolute value, and number sense. n

How Students Will Be Assessed: Homework Average (starts at 100%) n Quizzes n Unit tests n Projects / Journals n Math Space adaptive and custom tasks n Informally everyday through preparedness, class work and class discussion. n

On-line Resources n n n Illustrative Mathematics resources can be found online. I’ve posted a link on my website. We will be using Mathspace to practice skills within each unit. Monitor your child’s time spent on Math Space, encourage use of hints and videos. Students have the opportunity to re-take a Mathspace quiz. Google Classroom is where all assignments are posted as a back-up to what students write in their agendas each class. Student calendars can help provide an organized view of the week ahead.
