Student Expectations • Abide by the student-generated class covenant • Write down homework IN EACH CLASS • Bring homework and supplies home daily • Takes responsibility to talk to teachers about missing work or confusion rather than the parent doing this • Strives for resiliency, perseverance, and effort rather than right/wrong • Executive Functioning class weekly in homeroom

th 6 Grade Students • Use the reading and writing process independently • Cite explicit evidence and infer from literature and informational texts to support their analysis of what the text says • Interact (ACTION) with the text • Effectively take and use Cornell Notes in content areas • Write arguments, narratives, and expository pieces using the writing process (draft, write, REVISE, edit, publish)

Homework About an hour a night Posted on the website daily Practice of the skills being taught in class Homework is not “graded” and often not collected, but it’s used to generate class discussion and demonstrate understanding • Must be in class on the due date so that the student can effectively participate in discussion and activities • Student will attend lunch study hall if work is not complete • •

Missionary Discipleship • Middle school experience beginning in 6 th grade • Students identify an authentic need, participate in missionary discipleship, and reflect on the experience • 5 hours per trimester (6 th, 7 th, 8 th), 5 hours in summer between 6 th/7 th and 7 th/8 th • Spring of 8 th grade-culminating reflection project • See information and rubric that went home or on website

How Can You Help? • Help your child budget time and set priorities • “What is your homework in SS tonight? ” rather than “Did you do your homework? ” • Help your child if they ask for specific help, but do not attempt to “reteach” a concept. • Direct your child to ask the teacher for help with concepts.

Absences • Email the teacher(s) and attendance@asbschool. org • Try to organize a way to get books/homework home (sibling, neighbor, friend, pick-up at office) and let the teacher know • Preplanned absence-Form is on the website, please fill out and return to office 2 weeks in advance (half day absence or more)
