WELCOME TO SIXTH GRADE! 08/03/2017 • Beginning of Class Procedures: Unload your backpack. You can NOT take it with you. • STOP BRINGING A BAG/BACKPACK until you get your locker. • Go get your breakfast NOW. Do not wait. • • Breakfast is over at 9: 15. First period will begin immediately after announcements. We will take you to your connections the first week of school. Turn in any signed paperwork to the 7 th period homework bin. It’s the very first tray/bin. Seventh period = Homeroom (There isn’t a 7 th period. I’ll change the label later. ) If you are not eating, you must read something of your choice. Help yourself to the books on the bookshelf. HOMEROOM = SILENCE
Connections Schedule – Week One 08/03/17 � Monday: � 1 st – Read 180 • Thursday: 1 st – Art 2 nd – Chorus � 2 nd – Health/PE • Friday � Tuesday: � 1 st – STEM � 2 nd – Math Connection � Wednesday: � 1 st – Orchestra � 2 nd – Band 1 st & 2 nd – J-Code Talks in the Theater and the Theater can get COLD, so bring a jacket! You will later decide which connections you like and then you will have those permanently as your 1 st & 2 nd connection classes.
Language Arts – Warm Up 08/03/17 Set Up Your Children’s Book Fold all three pages of paper in half. � Then, staple the spine of your “book” two times. � On the front cover, write the following items: � �Children’s Rule Book �By: First Name Last Name � If you have your Parent Homework or Syllabus Homework to submit, please turn it in to your class period’s homework bin.
Language Arts – Work Session 08/03/17 � Essential Question: How can I be successful in 6 th grade? � Standard: ELACC 6 W 4 - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. � “Today I will use RAFT writing because it will help me address a topic for a specific audience and purpose. ”
Language Arts – Work Session 08/03/17 Step 1: Fold all pages of your construction paper in half. Step 2: Staple the pages together to form your book. Step 3: Using our classroom rules, re-write the rules using your own words so that even a 4 -year -old would understand. Each rule should have its own page. Be sure to use the front and the back of each page. Step 4: AFTER you have completed your rules, you may illustrate them. This assignment is due at the end of class TODAY.
Language Arts – Work Session 08/03/17 Children’s Rule Book 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Talking ceases the moment you enter the classroom. Have all supplies ready upon entry to the classroom. Sharpen pencils before or after class only. Throw trash away before or after class only. No paper balls! Once you are prepared, immediately begin the Bell Ringer/Warm Up. Always raise your hand to speak. No food, drink, or gum is allowed in the classroom. Be respectful of yourself and of others. Enjoy each and every day to your fullest potential.
