Student Success Initiative • All 5 th graders in the state of Texas must pass the Reading Test and Math Test. • Students are given two opportunities to pass during the school year. The third opportunity occurs at the end of summer school. • If a student doesn’t pass by the third opportunity, they are retained in the 5 th grade.
