A message from the Principal Titan Family, Welcome to Renaissance Charter School at Tapestry! I am so thrilled to begin another amazing school year with you and all of our children in this wonderful place of learning. The 2019 -2020 school year has been so rewarding and it is a privilege to be able to continue to serve you in the role of principal at Tapestry. Through offering a high quality standards based curriculum and providing accelerated learning opportunities, we will enable our students to be college and career ready while we continue to provide a high quality school of choice in Osceola County. The 2019 -2020 school year is in the rear view. There were lots of lesson learned as we faced a worldwide pandemic. However, together we transitioned learning from a brick and mortar building to virtual learning. As I reflect on what we were able to accomplish with the help of our parents, students teachers and staff- despite the challenging circumstances, I am humbled that I was able to play a small role in our success. Typical School Schedule • Classes are set to begin August 20, 2020. • School starts at 8: 00 AM for all students. • School ends at 3: 00 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. • Wednesday is early release day from 8: 00 AM to 2: 00 PM (unless otherwise notified) • Car loop opens at 7: 30 AM and closes at 3: 45 PM or 2: 45 Pm on Wednesday.

At Tapestry We Offer AFTER SCHOOL/SATURDAY TUTORING: • Designed to prepare students for the high stakes testing that occurs every year • Parents will receive invitations to participate CLASSROOM TUTORING: • Your child’s teacher will offer tutoring one day a week • To ensure your child fully understands and is comfortable with the subject matter (based on your child’s needs) 12

We support ALL Students GIFTED, ELL STUDENTS: • We have high expectations for all students • We welcome and encourage the enrollment of students with all learning profiles • Students eligible for gifted services will be provided an enriched and differentiated curriculum 13

We support ALL Students STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS: • We believe that ALL students can learn and take an individualized approach to students’ education • Students with disabilities will be educated in accordance with their IEPs • We provide a continuum of special education services • We follow the same identification, evaluation, placement, and due process procedures as traditional public schools • We follow federal, state and district guidelines pertaining to students with special needs 14

Parent Involvement = STUDENT SUCCESS • PARENT INVOLVEMENT: • Research proves that when parents are actively involved in their children’s education, achievement scores rise. • Therefore we strongly suggest parents commit to volunteer hours. • 20 hours for the first child • 30 hours for two or more children 15

Student Meals: Breakfast & Lunch • Our food provider is Osceola County School district, menus available online with allergen information a month in advance • BREAKFAST • Starts at 7: 30 am • Free breakfast is provided for all students • LUNCH • We participate in the National School Lunch Program • Free lunch is provided for all students • Applications for free/reduced lunch will be available during registration 16

Uniforms cont. • Student must come to school in uniform. All polo shirts must have the school logo embroidered. • Students must have their shirts tucked in. • Navy Blue, black or white Jackets/Sweaters ONLY. • No lights on shoes or colored belts. Any type of closed toe shoes are accepted. No sandals. • Elementary Students use: Red polo shirts and beige pants, shorts or skirts. Bottoms do not have to be embroider with the school logo. • Middle School Students use: Navy Blue or White polo shirts and beige pants, shorts or skirts. Bottoms do not have to be embroider with the school logo.

Grading Philosophy (School-Wide) • Academic Grades are a reflection of mastery of grade level standards being taught • Student academic work is not based on effort, behavior, or participation. • There is no extra credit • Students are afforded re-teaching and reassessment opportunities as the school/teacher deems fit. • Practice vs. Mastery Grades • Homework is a practice grade, but is used to support mastery work done in the classroom.

Grading Scale Grades K-1 Grades 2 -12 E* – Excellent Progress 90 -100% A – Exceeds Mastery of the Standards S* – Satisfactory Progress 80 -89% B – Mastery of Standards N – Needs Improvement 70 -79% C – Approaching Grade Level Standards U – Unsatisfactory Progress 60 -69% D – Below Grade Level Standards 0 -59% F – Failure S** – Satisfactory Progress N** – Needs Improvement

Attendance • Your children must be in school every day as mandated by state law. • Please make sure your child arrives on time (8: 00 am) and is not consistently taken out of school early. • If absences become a concern, the teacher is mandated to report absences to Administration and our attendance team. • Research shows that students who miss numerous school days significantly fall behind their peers who have regular attendance. • If your child is sick please keep them home, report the absence to their teacher and send a note once your child returns to school.

The Leader in Me • We are teaching students to be Leaders in the school and at home! • Our class is learning a habit every month. This month habit is Be proactive. Our habits are part of the daily schedule for 15 minutes at the end of the day, and is reviewed during the day and actions.
