Welcome to Quarter 3, Semester Two! The year is already HALF OVER! Can you believe it?

Do Now #1: Semester 1 Reflection Look back on the first half of the

Do Now #1: Semester 1 Reflection Look back on the first half of the school year, and think not only about what you did or did not accomplish in school, but in your life as well. You are in high school now, which is the true beginning of your educational career, when things really start to matter. Think of your work ethic, your ability to balance a school and social life, your relationships with friends, family, and teachers. What do you think of this past semester? Did you make yourself or anyone else proud of you? In what way? Do you have any New Year resolutions? How do you hope to accomplish them? What do you want to improve this year, this semester, and how do you intend to do this? This MUST be a MINIMUM of TEN sentences. Dig deep!

Quarter 3 Expectations Write EVERYTHING or this WILL BE A ZERO!

Quarter 3 Expectations Write EVERYTHING or this WILL BE A ZERO!

Do Nows ● These are a BIG PART of your grade, and if you

Do Nows ● These are a BIG PART of your grade, and if you DON’T write five sentences, that is bringing your grade down A LOT! ● COUNT YOUR SENTENCES! You earn TWO POINTS per COMPLETE sentence! ● Check your GRAMMAR! Words of Death COST points and incomplete sentences DO NOT COUNT! ● Check your punctuation! If it doesn’t have a period, exclamation point, or question mark at the end, it IS NOT A SENTENCE! ● Check that EACH Do Now is LABELED and DATED! If not, it’s a ZERO!!! ● If you’re absent, check the assignment checklist online and make sure you get the Do Now DONE! Being absent DOES NOT MEAN you don’t have to do it!!!

Binder Checks ● Binder checks will resume this quarter! Make sure your binder is

Binder Checks ● Binder checks will resume this quarter! Make sure your binder is ORGANIZED! Organization is 45 points! ● ALL assignment should be in the proper section, labeled and dated, and be in CHRONOLOGICAL order. ● I DON’T want to see ANY math, Spanish, or science stuff in there! This binder is for this class ONLY! ● If an assignment is not in your binder when I do a check, it’s a ZERO. This means that when you’re absent, you need to make up the work you missed IMMEDIATELY so you don’t forget and get zeros!! ● Remember, any INCOMPLETE notes will earn a ZERO as well, so make sure you are writing EVERYTHING you are supposed to!

Readers Notebooks ● As I told you, this quarter we will be doing Readers

Readers Notebooks ● As I told you, this quarter we will be doing Readers Notebooks with our dystopian novels. ● You will each need a composition notebook for this activity. NO SPIRAL NOTEBOOKS ALLOWED!!! ● Each week, you will choose one activity out of a list of 22, and complete it in your notebook. ● You will be graded on effort, creativity, grammar/spelling, following directions, and proof of reading. ● You will complete EIGHT DIFFERENT activities over eight weeks of reading your dystopian novel.

Readers Notebooks ● As with Reading Logs and Lit Circles, you will sign a

Readers Notebooks ● As with Reading Logs and Lit Circles, you will sign a reading schedule and book contract, which is a test grade worth 80 points. For each week you do not complete one of the activities, that test grade goes down TEN POINTS. Miss 1 RNB assignment: Test grade- 88% (B) Miss 2 RNB assignments: Test grade- 75% (C) Miss 3 RNB assignments: Test grade- 63% (D) Miss 4 RNB assignments: Test grade- 50% (F) Miss 5 RNB assignments: Test grade- 38% (F) Miss 6 RNB assignments: Test grade- 25% (F) Miss 7 RNB assignments: Test grade- 13% (F) GET YOUR WORK DONE!!!!

Commonlit ● Commonlit is 15% of your grade. ● If you don’t complete the

Commonlit ● Commonlit is 15% of your grade. ● If you don’t complete the assignment by the due date, it’s a ZERO. ● If you don’t answer the short response question, it’s a ZERO, no matter what you get on the multiple choice questions. ● If you are having problems with technology at home, that is NO EXCUSE. If you don’t have internet at home, you can come to my room before school, after school, during lunch, or during 4 th period. ● This quarter, we will be reading at least TWO of the assignments together in class, but you will STILL have to complete the online portion at home or in my room after/before school!

No Red Ink ● GET IT DONE! ● These assignments are meant to HELP

No Red Ink ● GET IT DONE! ● These assignments are meant to HELP you so you can improve your grammar not only so you can do well on the FSA, but so you can COMMUNICATE more CLEARLY! ● These are also a helpful BOOST to your grade! They’re not hard! ● If you get stuck, ask me for help! ● If you’re late on a practice assignment, you get a ZERO. No redos. The program does not allow it.

Reminder: ACADEMIC DISHONESTY Apparently there are some students who STILL either don’t understand or

Reminder: ACADEMIC DISHONESTY Apparently there are some students who STILL either don’t understand or don’t care about academic dishonesty. ● It is considered CHEATING ANY TIME you LOOK at another student’s work or something online and COPY IT!!! ● This INCLUDES NOTES!!! If you miss notes, get the info from my website! EVERYTHING is there! ● There is NO REASON another student should EVER ask to look at your binder, a handout, or ANY other work we do in this class! ● If you have the same answers for ANYTHING, including comprehension questions, example sentences for vocab, information for RNBs, YOU ARE CHEATING!!! ● You should NEVER ask another student to see their binder or work! ● If another student EVER asks you to see your work, SAY NO! BOTH students will face the SAME consequences for cheating!!

After School Tutoring I have ALWAYS said that I am available after school for

After School Tutoring I have ALWAYS said that I am available after school for help, but I will now have official tutoring hours. If you need help with anything, have questions about an assignment, or want to talk about your grade and how you can improve, my hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3: 00 4: 00, unless I have a meeting. Come get help!

Reminder: EFFORT is KEY Effort is REWARDED in this class. LAZINESS is NOT. ●

Reminder: EFFORT is KEY Effort is REWARDED in this class. LAZINESS is NOT. ● It is NOT HARD to do well in this class. All you have to do is DO THE WORK and show a little bit of EFFORT! ● Do the BARE MINIMUM and you will EARN the BARE MINIMUM. ● The more EFFORT you put in, the more you’ll LEARN, and the EASIER class will get! ● This mentality of “What’s the EASIEST way to do this” and “What’s the least amount of work I can do and still pass” will NOT serve you well in the real world. ● Take CARE in EVERYTHING you do!

Other Reminders. . . ● I DO NOT accept electronic submissions of ANY work!

Other Reminders. . . ● I DO NOT accept electronic submissions of ANY work! If I ask you to send a picture of something to me, it is only to VERIFY that the work is completed. I’m NOT going to grade a picture! You must STILL bring in the work the NEXT DAY! ● Make sure EVERY ASSIGNMENT is LABELED and DATED or it will go in the TRASH! ● Anything TURNED IN without a FULL NAME, DATE, and PERIOD will also go in the TRASH! I am TIRED of playing detective and trying to match up handwriting! I’m NOT doing it ANYMORE!

Other Reminders… Bathroom Policy ● You don’t need to ANNOUNCE that you have to

Other Reminders… Bathroom Policy ● You don’t need to ANNOUNCE that you have to pee. Raise your hand point to the door. Don’t interrupt class. ● If we’re taking notes, DON’T BOTHER. I’m going to say no, unless it’s an emergency. If you tend to have A LOT of “emergencies” I’ll be calling home to check with your parents about your health. ● There is NO REVOLVING DOOR IN MY CLASSROOM, and it seems peeing is contagious. When one person goes to the bathroom, you must wait TEN minutes AFTER they come back before the next person can go! Just go BEFORE class! ● This means, if you DO go, go QUICKLY! Someone else might be doing the pee dance waiting for you to return!

Period 2: Military/ Boot Camp Style Class No more Ms. Nice Wyce. Things are about to get STRICT.

Period 2: Military/ Boot Camp Style Class In the military, recruits are taught important

Period 2: Military/ Boot Camp Style Class In the military, recruits are taught important values like teamwork, respect, and responsibility. In boot camp, a company (group of recruits) is taught that they can only succeed together, and fail together. They are taught that they are only as strong as their weakest link. In this class, some of you have failed your classmates AND yourselves by creating a disruptive learning environment. This is going to change. You must learn teamwork, respect, and responsibility if you want to succeed. And you will ONLY succeed TOGETHER.

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● All students will line up outside the door before

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● All students will line up outside the door before the start of class. Everyone MUST be SILENT before being allowed in. ● When you enter, you turn your phone OFF, put it in the pocket that matches your desk, get your binder, sit down, and start your Do Now. ● ALL this MUST be done in ABSOLUTE SILENCE or EVERYONE will go back outside and we will start AGAIN. This is called a CLASS RESET. ● Any work that is not completed in class due to class resets will be EXTRA HOMEWORK and will be due the next morning BEFORE first period. ANYONE who does not bring it in will earn a ZERO for the assignment. NO EXCEPTIONS.

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● There is ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING in class unless you

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● There is ABSOLUTELY NO TALKING in class unless you have raised your hand AND been called on by me. ● THIS is your first warning. If you talk in class without permission, your name will be put on the board, which means you will have a one hour after-school detention the NEXT DAY. You parent will be notified. ● If multiple students earn detentions on the same day, I will add dates. No two students will serve detention on the same day. ● During this detention you will EITHER clean my classroom, including scraping gum off the bottom of the desks, or you will copy the Declaration of Independence, word for word. If you skip a word, or misspell something, you will START OVER for as long as it takes.

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● If you talk out of turn AGAIN, after you

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● If you talk out of turn AGAIN, after you have already been given a detention, you will stand in the corner with your face to the wall for the rest of the class. Any work you miss must be completed as homework and will be due the next morning BEFORE 1 st period or you will receive a ZERO. ● If you earn two detentions within a month I will require your parent to come in for a mandatory conference, where we will discuss your behavior and how it affects others in the class. ● If you earn a third detention you will be given an administrative referral, which goes on your permanent record, and will result in Saturday school.

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● Other infractions that will earn you a detention are:

PERIOD 2: New Policies ● Other infractions that will earn you a detention are: changing your seat without permission, throwing anything in class, mouthing or gesturing to another student in the room, getting out of your seat without permission, using your phone without permission, destruction of property, gum chewing, whispering to another student, turning around in your seat (eyes should be forward or down at all times) and ANYTHING else that is against the rules. ● If you earn a detention you also automatically lose ALL conduct points FOR THE WHOLE WEEK. If I have to take points from future weeks, I WILL.

PERIOD 2: New Policies

PERIOD 2: New Policies

Period 2: New Policies ● ALL word is INDEPENDANT. There are no more groups

Period 2: New Policies ● ALL word is INDEPENDANT. There are no more groups and absolutely NO free time or down time. There are NO class discussions. You will be listening, reading, and/or working for ALL 90 minutes of this class EACH DAY. ● Two minutes before the bell the front row person will collect the binders from their row and place them NEATLY back in the bin. NO ONE leaves until the bin is ORGANIZED and EVERYONE is in their seat and SILENT. ● These policies will continue until you PROVE to me that you can act like mature, responsible young adults. If that takes the rest of the year, or if that never happens, so be it. This will be life in period 2.
