This training module is to give an overview of a pulmonary rehab (PR) program to candidates. Bing Images
PR Candidate Criteria (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), 2011) PR candidate suffering with lung disease must have a goal to improve the following • Dyspnea (shortness of breath; SOB) • Exercise capacity • Restriction in activities • Impaired health status • As symptom burden increases
• Goals of a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program: • To improve participants overall quality of life • To help the participant develop methods to cope with his/her disease • To promote and maintain the participants physical capabilities
• Following the education provided, the participants with chronic lung disease will successfully learn to cope with their disease by effectively communicating any exacerbations to their instructor by the end of the six t 0 12 week program. • Following demonstrations provided, the participants with chronic lung disease will effectively perform at least a two breathing techniques on their own at the end of the six to 12 week program. • Following monitored exercise routines, the participants with chronic lung disease will slowly increase their six minute walk by two feet per week for the duration of six to 12 week program.
