A Message from Our Principal

● I was born on November 3 rd, 1982 (born and raised in Miami, FL) ● After having taught preschool for three years, I became an elementary education teacher and have been teaching second grade at Doral Academy for seven years. ● I graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelors in Communications (Advertising), as well as Elementary Education. ● I have two kids: Mia (15) and Ricky (14)

I’m up every morning at 4: 45 AM to make sure I do the one thing that keeps my sanity: exercise! ����♀� I love all sports… but I ADORE football. I’m a big Dallas Cowboys and Miami Hurricanes fan. �� I love to play golf! ����♀� Other things I enjoy are traveling, being outdoors, reading, and any sort of puzzle. And food! LOVE my food.

WHAT’S NEW? Second grade is a turning point in your child’s education. In this class your child will become responsible and learn that only they are accountable for their work and actions. ● Students will be responsible for copying certain information every day (agenda), and for their assignments and turning them in on their due date. ● Special Areas (Music, Art, P. E, and Spanish) ● Google Classroom

ACCEL CLASS ● Grade level curriculum with acceleration in core subjects. ● Student are selected based on performance, teacher recommendation and Gifted qualification.

● Together we will focus on class values and goals which we will create and discuss on the first week of school. Some of these values are: - This is a class that shows kindness. - This is a class that learns from our mistakes. - This is a class that respects others. ● Examples of ideal and unacceptable behaviors will be discussed during the first week of school in order to make sure that students understand what is expected of them. ● Students are required to follow rules, if they do not, it will affect conduct grade.

WHY FULL VIRTUAL SCHEDULE? The new RLI schedule has been designed to fulfill the instructional minutes per day required by the FLDOE for the 2020 -2021 school year 2 nd – 5 th: Specials are a required part of the day and are built into the schedule Breaks and lunch are also built in.

CALENDAR ● Please remember that Doral Academy does not follow Miami-Dade County Public Schools calendar. ● During Remote Live Instruction, Early Release will be at 12 PM. ● Calendar can be found on school website.

● ● ● HONOR ROLL & PERFECT ATTENDANCE Zoom Honor Roll Assemblies Attendance guidelines ● Perfect Attendance is awarded to students with zero absences and zero tardies. Please note that the DAC/JAM policy is different from the standard MDCPS policy for awarding perfect attendance. ● To ensure students make their best effort to be present at school every day, referrals will be issued for the following: ● 5 unexcused absences = 1 referral ● 10 tardies = 1 referral ● 10 early releases = 1 referral Absences / tardies due to connectivity issues: Parent must communicate immediately with the teacher and IT support ● ● Carolina Gomez 305 -597 -9999 ● Marlene Ali 786 -631 -1826 ● Ramiro Cabezas 786 -706 -4976 If no connectivity solution is reached, the student is marked Excused Absent and make up work is provided

● 2 nd – 8 th grade students will be required to use a laptop or desktop with a camera. ● Headphones must be worn during instruction to ensure that students are focused and to eliminate distraction. ● Help us by making sure your child treats school property responsibly ● Financial obligations will be used for damaged textbooks

● Once in Colegia, you can click on Google Classroom to join our class! ● Zoom and other resources can be all be found in Colegia.

Expectations: Please ensure that your child… ● eats breakfast before class ● has a quiet place free of distractions from family members, pets, or toys ● signs into Zoom 5 -10 minutes before class begins ● wears uniform ● treats school resources responsibly ● completes work independently ● remains present throughout the instructional day ● adheres to due dates
