The Grading Policy Assessment Details Typical methods will include major tests, quizzes, writing assignments, projects, group participation, homework, class work, and oral presentations. If you miss a test or assignment, a zero will be recorded for that activity until the test or assignment is completed. Students have TEN SCHOOL DAYS to take a test or turn in an assignment. After ten days, the zero is permanent. Grading System 80% - tests and project-based assessments 20% - classwork, homework, and quizzes • • • Reading Writing Analyzing Discussing Listening Presenting Skills Taught
Cheating and Plagiarism Policy Honesty is a virtue to cultivate throughout your life, and not just in this class. Dishonesty/cheating include attempts to • • Copy work Give or receive answers during a test Use any electronic device during a test Copy material without giving the author creditplagiarism is a serious offense
Any infraction involving cheating or plagiarism will result in receiving a zero on the test, project, or assignment! Do the right thing!
Late Work Absences have a direct, negative effect on your grade; if you are not present in class, you are missing work and material that is difficult to make up. • Make-up tests may be given upon your return or scheduled for a later date. However, you only have up to ten school days to take a missed test.
You must take an announced test even if absent the day before It is at my discretion to accept late work for credit without an excused absence or participation in a school-related, excused activity.
Time Management Each day’s work differs from the next, and you will be engaged in honors-level work. This means you may occasionally have more than one project in process at times. This will require your higherlevel thinking skills, creativity, and the ability to meet a deadline. Use a calendar and do not procrastinate! Manage your time wisely.
The Rules 1. Be responsible. 2. Be respectful. But…
Classroom Guidelines and Expectations 1. BE ON TIME! Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell “tones”.
2. BE PREPARED! Bring all required materials to class daily and be ready to begin work when the tardy tone sounds.
3. PAY ATTENTION! When I am talking, I want and expect your undivided attention. I will do the same for each of you.
4. BE INFORMED! You are welcome to bring water or drinks to class, but you may not bring any food into the classroom.
5. BE IN CONTROL! Leave cell phones on silent and face down on your desk.
6. Sleeping is not expected nor permitted.
I AM NOT SLEEPING. THIS IS JUST HOW I BEST REFLECT ON YOUR TEACHING.
7. ACT YOUR AGE! When in doubt, behave as a high school senior should.
