Welcome to Mechanical Engineering Technology Certificate of Completion in CNC Operations Gary Masciadrelli, Dept Chair John La. Francis, Professor Tom Minor, Staff Assistant Transformations Project.
Today’s Goals: • Short video on the program • CNC Operations defined • The Courses • Examples of student work • Jobs and salary • Continuing my education • Hands on experience
What is the CNC Operations Certificate? § The CNC certificate is designed to provide students with basic operation and control of modern computer numerical control machinery. § Students are instructed in CNC programming, machine set-up, and operation of a CNC mill and lathe (you will see this later today) § Advanced programming is included with the integration of solid models from CAD with CAM to obtain a fundamental understanding of how to proceed from the design stage to manufacturing. § This certificate can be completed in one year (two semesters), however; it must be started in the fall semester.
Jobs and Salaries § The CNC certificate prepares the student for an entry-level position in manufacturing companies in the greater Springfield–Hartford area. § Students may obtain CNC operator positions in companies who products include (but are not limited to) aerospace components, medical devices, laser cutting and welding, and consumer products. § Graduates can expect a starting pay rate of $13 to $18 per hour. § A night professor here works at an aerospace manufacturing company and has received $28/hr in RAISES in 10 years
Curriculum
Software Used § § Solid. Works Mastercam Tooling U CES Edu. Pack – Materials Database § Vericut § 3 D Printing
Where do MET and CNC graduates work?
Furthering Education § All courses from the CNC Operations certificate can be applied to the Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology § Starting salaries average $20 - $25 hourly § 10 -20 percent continue at a 4 -year college.
