CALL TO WORSHIP (RESPONSIVE) One: How shall we know that we have found favor in your sight, O God? All: How do children know that they are created in your image? One: How do we raise up youth to always know your presence goes with them?

All: How do we find this faith within ourselves, O God? One: With Moses, we implore, “Show us your glory. ” All: With the children, we seek your graciousness now.

SINGING OF INVOCATION Bring many names, beautiful and good, celebrate, in parable and story, holiness in glory, living, loving God. Hail and hosanna! Bring many names!

Young, growing God, eager, on the move, saying no to falsehood and unkindness, crying out for justice, giving all you have: Hail and hosanna, young, growing God!

Great, living God, never fully known, joyful darkness far beyond our seeing, closer yet than breathing, everlasting home: Hail and hosanna, great, living God!

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (IN UNISON)

Growing God, we confess that we cling to the comfortable, fall back on the familiar, and allow apathy to dull our hearts and our commitment. We shrug our shoulders and say that poverty is inevitable even as it deprives children of the fullness of life that you intend and they deserve.

We throw up our hands at the number of children without health coverage and accept what is unacceptable. We shake our heads over the bursting prisons but turn away from the things that push children toward prison rather than keeping them on the path to success.

Forgive us, Growing God, for callousness instead of compassion, for discouragement instead of determination, for selfishness instead of service. Allow us to grow into your ways and find favor in your sight. Mature with us so that just love may be realized for all your children. Daydream with us so that we might do justice on behalf of all children.

Answer these prayers we pray in the name of your Beloved Child, the hope of the world. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON God grows with you. Look upon God’s face, as He speaks sweetly to you, saying, I will do the very thing you have asked; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name. P: The peace of God be with you always. C: And also with you

SERMON: BELONGING TO GOD

GOD REIGNS O’RE ALL THE EARTH God reigns o’er all the earth! Green hills and valleys low, the farms and towns in golds and browns God’s grace and beauty show.

God reigns o’er all the earth! Stone banks and spreading plains, in rainbow hues – reds, yellows, blues -of streams and country lanes.

God reigns o’er human life! Through youth and aging years, in death, in birth, in grief, in mirth, in all our hopes and fears.

God reigns o’er human life! Our inspiration still. Through all our schemes, in all our dreams, we see God’s reigning will.

God reigns o’er time and space! In history’s bygone days, Christ’s faithful folk in reverence spoke to bring God earnest praise.

God reigns o’er time and space! O’er galaxy and sun, through timeless years the cosmos hears the heavenly music run.

God reigns! Emmanuel! God with us every day, in all our past and to the last, our comfort and our stay. God reigns! Emmanuel! Let praise to Christ be sung! God’s presence here makes all things dear. Let joyful bells be rung!

PASTORAL PRAYER

LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. AMEN.

RESPONSE Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me (2 x) Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on me.

OFFERTORY INVITATION God looks upon your face. God assures you when nothing else can. “My presence will go with you”, God says. “I will give you rest”, God prays. Let us carry this spirit into our giving. Let us praise God with our gifts of tithes and offerings.
