Self-Selecting Expressive Classes The goal for the 2017 – 2018 school year is for the incoming 7 th & 8 th grade students to self-select their expressive classes Students will have 3 periods in their schedules for expressive classes. Required Classes 8 th Grade Health – This class is required for High School graduation. 8 th Grade Preparing for College and Careers Students who are required to attend a Math or ELA lab will self-select their other two periods. Students who are required to attend both a Math and ELA lab will selfselect one period.

Preparing for Logansport High School Opportunities Logansport High School has an extensive dual credit

Preparing for Logansport High School Opportunities Logansport High School has an extensive dual credit program. LHS partners with Ivy Tech Community College, Indiana University, Ball State University, and Trine University. Core 30 Pathway Beginning next fall at LHS, students can earn the "Core 30” pathway. Established in 2012 by the Indiana legislature, the Transfer General Education Core (TGEC) Pathway, otherwise known as the "Core 30" pathway, provides students access to a minimum of 30 transferable college credits, which are transferable as a block to all public and most private Indiana colleges and universities.

Core 30 Pathway Continued Credits earned are within English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and

Core 30 Pathway Continued Credits earned are within English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and the Humanities. The bundled 30 credits represent one year of college Students following this pathway must achieve the ACCUPLACER, or other testing prerequisite, scores to earn the college credit associated with each course. Successful completion of the TGEC provides an estimated cost savings of $20, 000 in college expenses per student for the family.

Current Middle School Athletic Format 6/7/8 participate together in: Cross Country, Tennis, Soccer (6

Current Middle School Athletic Format 6/7/8 participate together in: Cross Country, Tennis, Soccer (6 team and 7/8 team), Wrestling, Track, and Golf 7/8 participate together in: Football, Baseball, Softball Schools compete in volleyball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, and cheerleading by school. Practices currently run from 3 PM to as late as 8 PM for each school. Typically one coach (possibly an assistant) for each team/practice.

Transition for Athletics • No athletic opportunities will be taken away from Logansport 6/7/8 student athletes. • Continue to work towards building LHS athletic programs by continually working to improve feeder systems at all levels. • Provide extra time for practices to improve athletic skills while finding a balance for educational responsibilities. • Provide an opportunity for multiple coaches to work with athletes with the goal of a “clinic” feel for practices. • Create an atmosphere where student-athletes have an opportunity to play together at an earlier age, which in turn, can help to improve LHS programs over time.

COLUMBIA th 6 Grade Academy • No athletic opportunities will be taken away from student-athletes. • 6 th grade students will continue to be allowed to participate alongside 7/8 students in tennis, cross country, wrestling, golf, and track. There will continue to be a 6 th grade soccer team, as well as volleyball, basketball, and cheerleading teams. Students will be bused to LJHS/LHS for sports as in the past. • 6 th grade athletes (volleyball, basketball, cheer) will all practice at CMS. We have the goal of practice times being such that students will be able to be out of the gyms at earlier times than our current scheduling allows, while also providing the opportunity for extra practice time with multiple coaches. • Blue A and B/White A and B. • Volleyball will practice Blue/White together from 3 – 5 most nights. (Game nights will allow for individualized practices at times as well. ) • Blue team will play the former Lincoln schedule, and will play all contests in the Logansport Jr. High gym. • White team will play the former Columbia schedule, and will play all contests in the Columbia gym.

LOGANSPORT JR. HIGH ATHLETICS • • • Continues all current opportunities for Logansport student-athletes.

LOGANSPORT JR. HIGH ATHLETICS • • • Continues all current opportunities for Logansport student-athletes. Red/Black teams at the 7/8 grade level. Current schedules (LMS/CMS) will be utilized with minor changes to each. Both Columbia 6 th Grade Academy and Logansport Jr. High gym will be utilized for contests. Red team will play games at Columbia/Black team will play games at Logansport Jr High. Practices will take place at Logansport Jr. High. - Extra practice time will be available with the goal of getting practices completed 30 to 60 mins earlier than past practice for basketball, and up to three hours earlier for volleyball. (Basketball: 3 – 5 PM all 7 th grade Red and Black; 5 – 7 all 8 th grade Red and Black) (Volleyball: 3 – 5 PM for all Red/Black 7 and 8 with split gym and multiple coaches) Currently, practices are 90 minutes most nights.
