What is Learning Strategies? § The purpose of this course is to provide instruction that will enable students to acquire and use strategies and skills to enhance their independence as learners in educational and community settings.
What Type of Content Will The Course Cover? § § § § Strategies for storing knowledge Strategies for oral and written expression Strategies for linking new information with prior knowledge Organizational Strategies Test-taking skills Strategies for Reading Comprehension Self-Advocacy and Self-Determination Skills
WHAT WILL THE CONTENT COVER CONTINUED § TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS § SOCIAL SKILLS
What Are The Standards? § The course will integrate the Common Core Standards as appropriate to the individual student and to the content and process of the subject matter.
What Should The Students Complete? § The students shall complete the specified Common Core Standards with accommodations and modifications as appropriate for the individual student.
What Are The Expectations Of The Students? § Remain in your seat unless the teacher or assistants directs you otherwise. § All students are expected to be on time and to be in class daily unless he/she has an excused absence. Otherwise, students must sign the tardy log. § Keep all cell phones and other electronic devices out of sight at all times.
EXPECTATIONS CONTINUED § FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE TEACHER AND ASSISTANTS. § RAISE YOUR HAND TO MAKE A COMMENT OR ASH A QUESTION. § BRING SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR LEARNING § STAY AWAKE, KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AT ALL TIMES.
