Ms. Alisha Williams All About Me o I am originally from Long Island, New York o Colleges: o I am so excited to learn and grow with your kindergartners! o Bachelor’s- S. U. N. Y. New Paltz, NY Montessori Certification- Denver, CO Master’s- Loyola, Baltimore, MD o Taught kindergarten and firstgrade for 19 years (Onslow County & a Montessori School in N. Y. ) o A mom to Sofia Lily-6 th grader! o Hobbies: Spending time with family, and TEACHING!

Specials Schedule Specials are everyday for 30 minutes (in our classroom this year). For the month of August and most of September our class will have PE 2 on Mondays and Thursdays and Art on Tuesdays and Fridays. The rotation will change the last week in September. Schedule Day 1– PE 2 Day 2 - Art Day 3 – Global Day 4 – Music Day 5 - PE Day 6 - Media/Library Tennis Shoes/Sneakers Please make sure your child dresses appropriately! Your child must wear proper shoes for P. E. or they will not be able to participate. This is for their own safety.
Notes from the Nurse… 1. Please make sure your child is up to date on their immunizations! 2. Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep every night… there is a lot to learn every day! There is no nap time, but I will allow some rest time for the students the first few weeks if needed. 3. It is important to keep your child home when they are sick. Temperatures will be taken upon arrival. 4. Be sure your child knows proper hygiene. . They must be able to go to the bathroom unassisted and know how to wash hands correctly! We will wear masks daily.
Cafeteria Breakfast: Café Breakfast is $ 1. 25 Lunch: Café Lunch is $2. 25 WE WILL BE EATING LUNCH IN OUR CLASSROOM THIS SCHOOL YEAR. Practice eating “school lunch” with your kiddo. • Make sure they can open everything you send with them. • Talk about not eating off the table! • Set a timer for 15 minutes and talk about how they may not finish eating and that’s ok. (This is HARD for most. ) • Practice packing everything back up and talk about what is trash and what should come back home in their lunch box. Kindergarten lunch is a big adjustment and I am super appreciative of you for preparing them. **Deposit money in your child’s account to pay for lunch. The link to pay online is on the Onslow County Website. Due to Covid, we will not be collecting any cash. Lunch and all fees should be paid online.
Cohort Information • Cohort A – Students in this cohort will attend inperson school on Monday and Tuesday. They will learn remotely on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. • Cohort B – Students in this cohort will attend inperson school on Thursday and Friday. They will learn remotely on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
First 2 Days We have been given special permission from the District Office to allow parents to drop off KINDERGARTEN children at the OUTSIDE classroom door on the FIRST 2 Days ONLY. • • If a parent chooses this option, drop-off time will be between 9: 30 -10: 30. If a child will be dropped off in the “Kiss and Go Lane”, drop-off time will be the regular time-8: 25. • Morning Bus Riders will ride the bus at the regular scheduled time. Cohort A – Parents will be given a time between 9: 30 and 10: 30 on MONDAY to drop their child off for their first day of Kindergarten and take a quick picture. Time slots will be in 5 -minute increments. Cohort B –Parents will be given a time between 9: 30 and 10: 30 on THURSDAY to drop their child off for their first day of Kindergarten and take a quick picture. Time slots will be in 5 -minute increments.
Arrival Routine • The doors open at 8: 25. Students may NOT be dropped off before that time. • The tardy bell rings at 8: 45 and attendance will be taken at this time (with exceptions due to back-up). • Kiss and Go Lane – follow directions from crossing guards, no phones. (Move all the way up. ) • Parents should remain in their cars. • Each child’s temperature will be taken before entering school. It is very important your child is on time! There are many things going on that your child needs to be a part of. Staff members and Safety Patrol Leaders are posted around the school to help direct kids and monitor safety.
Arrival Routine School Morning Car Rider Drop Off (8: 25 am) Location: Front of the school, Kiss and Go Lane (1 lane) Please have your child stay in the vehicle until their temperature has been taken and several questions have been properly answered. If your child has a fever, etc. you will need to take the child home. There will be double the staff helping with this process. Tardy: No parents will be allowed in the school building, but you still need to check your child in on the kiosk!! The check in kiosk will be outside the front doors, a staff member will take the child’s temperature and ask you some questions before allowing the child into the building. Please remain with your child until a staff member has allowed him/her inside!!
How is your child getting home? This is the MOST IMPORTANT information that I need before the first day of school. Please fill out how your child will be transported home each day from school. We will provide a Transportation sheet on Friday. Please complete this information on FRIDAY BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Bus Rider-Bus Number and Stop-Please find on website prior to Friday Car Rider-Include any information that may help Daycare/Afterschool– We need to know the name of the Daycare
Dismissal Routine Commuter Dismissal Bus Rider Dismissal Commuters are dismissed at 3: 15 in the front parking lot. Bus riders are escorted to their bus at 3: 42. You will need to verify which bus your child will ride and then provide me with that information ASAP. After Care After-care students are dismissed with bus riders at 3: 42. They will be in the multipurpose room located across from the cafeteria. This year all transportation changes will be made using an app. Please make sure if your child is getting picked up by someone other than the usual, write a note and have them bring their ID to verify. They must also be on your pick-up list.
Commuter Dismissal Commuters/Car-riders are dismissed at 3: 15 in the front parking lot. NO IN PERSON PICK UP THIS YEAR!!! • Mr. Reed has signed a contract with a School Dismissal Manager App. Information on how to download will be emailed to you before the first day. • Parents/Guardians will need to download the App BEFORE the first day of school. Please stay tuned for information and instructions on how this will work from admin. The school must have a current email address for your family for the app to work. • Please let me know if a change to your email occurs.

For example, you could enter "2555 Lex" to match "2555 Lexington Ave N“ Please have the bus number ready when you come Friday.
Bus Riders Children must be picked up and dropped off at their home address. Your child must be dropped off every day where he/she is registered to live according to school records. There will be no bus changes due to capacity regulations. 1 child per seat when it is feasible, unless they are in the same family. Due to COVID safety precautions implemented this year, please have your child to the bus stop 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Facial coverings are mandatory. If you have any problems with your address or stop, please contact the Transportation Office at 910 -455 -5037. Routes and boundaries are subject to change.
Homework & How to Help Homework is given to help enrich understanding of what is being taught as well as building skills like responsibility and time management. . Read with your child every night! Understanding which way to go when reading and practicing sight words plays an important role for our Kindergarteners. This impacts them more than you know! When Bag Books come home, listen to them read daily. Top Banana/Ball Words Practice letter and sounds. and words nightly. Your child should be able to tell me the letter or word in 3 seconds. More info coming soon about practicing at home. Want to help? You already are. You showed up. You care. You bought a cart load of supplies. You raised them for 5 years. Keep it up. Talk nightly. Love them – they will be tired and grumpy at first – give them grace. Give them face time – step away from technology to just hang out. I guarantee it will be their favorite part of the day.

Snack and Celebrations Snack Time We will have snack in the afternoon. Good examples are goldfish, pretzels, crackers, fruit… (no fruit cups please) Less messy snacks are appreciated. Your child SHOULD bring in a SPILL PROOF water bottle to have out all day-no juice for snack time. PLEASE PACK SNACK SEPARATE FROM LUNCH! I RECOMMEND PLACING IT IN THE FRONT POCKET OF HIS/HER BACKPACK. Birthdays Birthday treats are celebrated during our lunch time at 10: 55. Treats must be store bought with labels visible. Mini cupcakes, bags of chips, donuts, etc. work. Let your kiddo pick. Please remind us in advance. Reward Celebrations There is so much to celebrate in K, we will learn so much and a reward for a job well done is the best. I will send more information for how you can help with this.
Behavior I am understanding and patient but expect cooperation and kindness. I am firm about setting up routines and expectations. This benefits all. I work to manage behavior in the moment and respectfully. Most behavior moments turn into learning experiences. We use a color chart. They will most likely experience all of the colors at some point and that is normal. Green is optimal. Higher colors are great but no reason to stress or bribe. Lower colors are not great but no reason for stress. If you choose to handle them at home a conversation and small timeout should work. Paperwork and Fees Please fill out the paperwork that is in the yellow folder you receive on Friday and return it on your child’s first day. We will send more information about school fees and technology fees soon! School Fees: $6 Technology fees $25 We are not collecting these yet.
