Welcome to HUMAN BODY The tour Your tour guide this trip will be Lucas Willenbrock
Our First Stop THE SKIN • The skin covers the outside of the human body it is the main component of the integumentary system • It is the largest Organ in the body (that’s right its an organ) • It serves to protect the internal systems from infection, retain moisture, regulate temperature, storage center and a location for vitamin d synthesis • It also allows us to sense heat, pressure, vibration and injury because it contains many nerve endings
• The skin has three layers • The epidermis or outer covering serves for water proofing and a barrier against infection • The second layer is the dermis it contains all the appendages of the skin • The third layer is the hypodermis it contains blood vessels
Our Second stop THE SKELETAL SYSTEM • The skeletal system is the framework of the human body • The average adult skeleton has 206 bones • Bones are made of mostly calcium and serve as a site to create red blood cells • Babies are born with about 231 bones and some fuse together as the child ages
Our third stop THE MUSCLAR SYSTEM • Muscles give us the ability of movement and in the case of the heart the ability to circulate blood • There about eight hundred muscles in the human body • There are three forms of muscle: cardiac smooth and skeletal
• Skeletal muscle is anchored to bones by tendons • Smooth muscle is like that of your bladder and intestines • Cardiac muscle is your heart and is involuntary
Our fourth stop THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM • The purpose of the digestive system is to extract nutrients, water from food and expel indigestible material • Digestion starts in the mouth and ends in the rectum the order involving major digestive organs is • mouth-esophagus-stomach-small intestine-large intestine-anus
• The liver, gall bladder, pancreas and appendix (vestigial) are all involved in digestion • The large intestine is also called the colon and has three parts the ascending, transverse and descending colon • The small intestine has the Jejunum, duodenum and ileum
Our fifth stop THE NERVOUS SYSTEM • The nervous system regulates involuntary and voluntary actions in our every day lives • It main parts are the brain, spinal cord and a web of nerve endings that run throughout the human body
• Once damaged nervous system cells do not regenerate • The spinal cord controls your metabolism and heart rate and other factors to maintain equilibrium or that are stimulated by a flight or flight response
Our sixth stop THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM • The circulatory system pumps blood and nutrients throughout the body • The main components are the heart, veins , arteries , lungs and capillaries
• The flow of blood is right atrium-right ventricle--arteriescapillaries-veins-left atrium-left ventricleaorta • The pulmonary vein is the only vein rich in oxygen • The pulmonary artery is the only artery that carries CO 2 rich blood
Our final stop THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM • human reproduction system is necessary for the survival of our species • The male reproductive organs are mostly external while the female’s in mostly internal
