Welcome to Hazelwood The Reception team would like to welcome you all to Hazelwood school. The following slides contain information about: • ‘Doorstep’ visits • Starting dates • Uniform • Tapestry • School website • A summer task for your child to complete
‘Doorstep’ visits Home visits will be held on: th September 7 – 9 th Your home visit date will be sent to you. If you need to change it please let us know as soon as possible. If your child attended Hazelwood Nursery they will not have another Home visit.
Why do we do ‘Doorstep’ Visits? • The visit will give us a chance to meet you and your child informally and gather information about their needs and interests. • The class teacher and Nursery nurse will visit your home for about 20 minutes on the arranged date and time. • Due to the current situation we will chat to you at your doorstep or in your garden.
Starting Date • All children will start on Thursday 10 th September. • They will be in either: Group A (Morning group: 8. 55 -11. 30 am) or Group B (Afternoon group: 12. 45 -3. 15 pm) The children will remain in these groups whilst attending part time school.
Week beginning: Monday 14 th September All children will continue to attend part time school in their groups. Group A (Morning group: 8. 55 -11. 30 am) or Group B (Afternoon group: 12. 45 -3. 15 pm) The children will remain in these groups whilst attending part time school.
Week beginning: Monday 21 st September All children will be full-time unless we feel that they need longer to settle. Your child may need a personalised introduction to school that will help them to settle more easily. All the children will be staying for lunch when they are attending full time school. School starts at: 8. 55 am School ends at: 3. 15 pm It is really important that you are on time to drop off and pick up as it can be upsetting for your child if you are late.
Uniform • • Red sweatshirt, jumper or cardigan Grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore White or red polo shirt Black shoes with velcro. No lace up shoes please. Your child will need a P. E. kit in the Spring Term. Please label all your child’s clothing. This is really important as the children have the same uniform and items do get lost at times. If your child’s name is on their uniform it makes it much easier for us to find. Thank you
Be ready for school It would really help your child to settle into school if they can: • • • Dress themselves. Put on their coat and shoes by themselves. Use the toilet by themselves. Use cutlery to feed themselves. Have a regular and early bedtime routine. Bedtime should be no later than 7 pm. • Read to your child regularly and talk about the book with them. Ask then to re-tell the story or make predictions about what might happen next. • Talk to your child about starting school.
Tapestry • • • An Online Learning Journal system where staff record children's progress and activities using tablet devices (i. Pads) and PCs. Parents can view their child’s journal on mobile devices and on their home computers, and can make observations of their own using a secure login system. It creates a two way communication between us (the EYFS team), and you (the parents and carers). In September you will receive an information letter about Tapestry. The consent form has been already sent to you so please fill in alongside other consent forms that we need parents/carers to sign before you child starts school. We will also hold information meeting (virtual communication) dedicated to Tapestry and working with your child at home sometime at the end of September
Hazelwood Website www. hazelwoodschools. org. uk We have a Reception page on the website which is updated weekly and has lots of information about what we have been learning about at school, what we will be learning about the following week and how you can help your child at home. Please read it weekly.
Video clip from your class teacher We hope that you have all seen the video message from your new class teacher. You can use the video clip as a way to talk about starting school with your child.

Summer task • Before your child starts Hazelwood we would like them to draw a picture that they can bring into school on their first day. We will be using these pictures for our very first display of the children’s work. • Your child can choose what they want to draw, perhaps their favourite animal, favourite toy, a place that they love to visit, a picture of themselves or their family or the family pet. • It would be great if they could have a go at writing their name on their picture. • Also please can an adult write their child’s name on the back of the picture. We are looking forward to seeing all the fabulous pictures.
Hygiene • It is crucial that you talk to your child about ‘healthy habits’ at school- please refer to the poster • Frequent hand washing is a must –please see slides at the end
Wash, Wash your hands. Wash them nice and clean. Scrub the bottom and the top and fingers in between. https: //www. teachingidea s. co. uk/healt hylifestyles/glo balhandwashing -day
Washing you hands Regular handwashing is the best way to protect yourself and your family from getting sick. It can prevent the spread of germs including those that are resistant to antibiotics. This simple activity could save more lives than any vaccine or medical intervention, preventing the spread of infection and keeping children in school.
Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them
Use Hand Sanitizer When You Can’t Use Soap and Water Apply the gel product to the palm of one hand (read the label to learn the correct amount). Rub your hands together. Rub the gel over all the surfaces of your hands and fingers until your hands are dry. This should take around 20 seconds
We hope that you all have a wonderful summer. Stay safe and see you all in September!
