Reading & Writing Workshop What It Looks Like Model How It Works • Mini Lesson- teacher teaches a short lesson on a reading or writing skill to the whole group • Independent Work - students practice the skill • Conferences- Teachers confer with individual students on skills that meet the student’s needs • Share- students share how they used the skill in their reading/writing that day • Gives students chance to selfselect writing topics, and the time to read “just right” books to practice strategies • Provides time for one-on-one and small group teaching • Students are taught skills that are appropriate for their state of reading/writing development • Instruction is differentiated for all students

ACE Programs • Germinated from our belief that nurturing the whole child is important • Based on Citizen Schools Model: Citizen Teachers, Teacher Mentor, Program Coordinator • Extends the day for our students • Pilot begins first week in November with another session in February WE NEED YOU! • Your area of expertise-i. e. , yoga, fixing bicycles, fly fishing, engineering, face painting, you name it! • Five week sessions ~ once per week • Team teaching with staff mentors • Maximum of 12 students • Most applicable age range for your activity • Supplies supported by our FRIES and existing school hardware • Free for all students
