Homework There are significant differences between the Homework program in Years 2 and 3.

Homework There are significant differences between the Homework program in Years 2 and 3. Regular homework helps students to develop good organisational and study habits. We encourage students to make their homework part of their weekly routine, setting aside a regular time (or times) to complete the set tasks. Homework is given out on a Tuesday and is expected to be returned the following Monday, with Diaries. There are no Share Time activities set in Year 3. While students may be invited to bring in items to share from time to time, ‘Share Time’ or ‘Show and Tell’ are not part of the daily routine in Year 3 and there will not be a Share Time schedule this year. Spelling – Students who have not yet learned to spell all of the Oxford Most Commonly Used Words will take home a list of 10 words to practise. Students who have shown they can spell all of the Oxford Most Commonly Used Words will be provided with a range of small Literacy-based activities to complete. Mathletics – for the children to familiarise themselves with the Mathletics program we ask that they log on to “Live Mathletics” and complete challenges each week. Students will be set 3 tasks, on a weekly basis. . Reading – Students no longer participate in ‘Reading Time’ and no longer take home readers. They are still expected to read for a minimum of 60 minutes per week. A record of all reading should be recorded in your child’s Diary. Students will have dedicated silent reading time during school hours. Books should be chosen by the student. They can choose books from the school library, local libraries, or home collections. Other reading, such as children’s newspapers and magazines are also acceptable. We recommend students read from a wide variety of text types. Each class will visit the school library every week. ü ü 3 B – 2: 00 pm Thursday 3 G – 3: 00 Wednesday ü 3 W – 9: 00 Tuesday ü 3 L - 3. 00 pm Monday How do I know if a book is the right level for my child? We use the five finger rule to find a “just right” book. ü ·Choose a book & open to any page. ü ·Start reading & put up a finger for every word you don’t know. ü ·If only 2 or 3 fingers go up, you’ve found a “just right” book!
