What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? • The Early Years Foundation Stage (E. Y. F. S. ) is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. • It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning.

The E. Y. F. S. is based on 4 themes. 1 A Unique Child

The first few weeks We will find out what the children already know and can do and use this information to help us develop an individual learning programme for each child. Each child has their own Folders. They have a Literacy folder, maths folder, a topic folder and an assessment file. They will also have an electronic file on the I pad that will have photographs and ongoing experiences and observations. We value any contribution that you would like to make to these folders in helping us meet your child’s needs.

Assessment • The Reception Year is a continuation of The Early Years Foundation Stage

Assessment • The Reception Year is a continuation of The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) • We use a Baseline Assessment which will be completed during the induction period. Judgements will be made through observations by the class teacher and teaching assistant. • Assessments are made throughout the year and recorded in a variety of ways. • – Electronic Learning Journals • – Work Evidence • – Observations • You will receive an end of year report showing final assessments of the EYFS Profile/Early Learning Goals.
