A (very) brief history A practical history of Forest Schools can begin with the original concept of Forest School in Sweden which was implemented in the 1950’s and it has since extended throughout the world. In the 1980’s the Forest Schools concept was established in Denmark for preschool children. Since the 1990’s UK Forest schools have been developed following the Denmark model. Forest Schools have now been adopted by schools, early years settings, environmental projects and community groups, run by trained staff in their own grounds or local woodlands.
