Homework Policy Students should expect to have about 50 minutes of homework per night l Test Folder l Helpful Homework Success Tips l Missed or Incomplete Assignments l l Parents will be contacted via email after multiple missed homework assignments The child will usually make up the assignment during recess. If it homework becomes a problem, special activities could be affected. Report card grades will be affected.
Homework Policy continued… Kidbiz: Students are being asked to complete 2 Kidbiz a week, scoring 75% or higher on the first try. The articles are leveled to your child’s reading level. (Each child took a Kidbiz Level Set Test before they started the program. ) The program runs Monday morning to Sunday night. *We give class time (approximately 50 minutes or more) to work on Kidbiz, but it is considered homework. * Reading Log: Students are expected to read daily (either in school or at home). A writing prompt will be due monthly to expose students to different genres. The monthly genres/prompts are posted on Google Classroom under “Reading Log” section. Students can always work ahead. Learning Contracts: Learning Contracts are classwork and homework. We assign (typically Journeys pages) each night. We modify the contract according to your child’s reading level. Science: Experiment Packet and Learning Logs: Your children complete these during science class. I always provide a checklist and go over what needs to be handed in by the due date. (I typically give the checklist a week before the experiment packet/learning logs are due. ) If they have not missed class, then they should not have to do anything. If they missed class due to being absent, having band/orchestra, etc. , then they may need to make up an experiment or a learning log before they hand in their packets. Science and Social Studies: Typically, the homework will be study guides for science and social studies. We give class time to work on the study guides, but they are also considered homework. Math: We typically give 2 pages that need to be completed in 2 days. Study guides always come out before a Unit Test, and they study guides mirror the test.

INTRODUCING. . . School Wide. Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports (SW-PBIS) 38
What is it. . . A common approach to discipline ➔ Positively stated expectations for all students ➔ Procedures for teaching these expectations to students ➔ Based on 3 “Pillars” ◆ RESPECTFUL ◆ RESPONSIBLE ◆ SAFE ➔ 39
This leads to. . . Increased levels of learning ➔ Less time on redirecting unexpected behaviors ➔ Community of practice ◆ Common language ◆ Shared experiences ◆ Consistent expectations ➔ Increased positive school climate ➔ 40
How it works. . . All students will be taught the expected behaviors in each location during the first 2 weeks of school ➔ Positive behaviors are acknowledged with reinforcers ➔ Unexpected behaviors are retaught and documented ➔ 41
How can you help. . . Talk to your child about their day ❏ Review the matrix with your child and post it in your home ❏ Ask how they show being safe, kind, and responsible at school ❏ Model expected behavior and reinforce consequences for unexpected behavior ❏ *Parent brochure 42
