BY THE END OF THE LESSON STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE. . . q to know details about the Speech or narration; q to know how to transform from direct to indirect speech; q to know different types of sentences and their change form direct to indirect.
Interrogative sentence Rule-1: Reporting verb ��� ask/asked ���� ���inverted comma ���if/whether ����� : a. Susmita said to Nila, ‘Will you go to college? ” Answer: Susmita asked Nila if she would go to college.
Interrogative sentence(Cont. ) Rule-2: Interrogative sentences-� reported speech ����� assertive sentence –� ����� a. My father said to me, “Did you learn your lesson? ” Answer : My father asked me if I learnt my lesson.
Interrogative sentence(Cont. ) Rule-3: Reporting verb ���ask/asked ���� ���reported speech-����� who, which, what, when, whom, where, whose, why, how ������� �� if/whether �����pronoun -��� �
Examples ���� : a. Karim said to me, ‘Where did you go yesterday? ’ Answer: Karim asked me where I had gone the previous day.
Exercise Change the narrative style by using indirect speeches. • a. The teacher said to the student, ‘Why have you not learnt your lesson? ’ • b. Rahim said to his friend, ‘Which book do you want? ’
Exercise-2 a. The teacher said to the students, ‘Have you learnt your lessons today? ’ b. Mother said to me, ‘Did you go to college yesterday? ’ c. The man said to the girl, ‘Will you buy new dress tomorrow? ’
