WHAT IS EIP? An early intervention program in the state of GA Provides additional instructional resources to help students obtain the necessary academic skills to reach grade level performance EIP is not Special Education Students are qualified each year. This is done through different assessments (RI, Milestones, Pre-requisite tests, Cobb County rubrics, DRA, etc. ) Students will automatically be qualified this year if they were EIP last year due to Covid. Based on the number of students we have who are in the EIP program here, we are able to offer 3 delivery models, smaller class sizes as well as push-in/pull-out support -What subjects we serve: EIP math, reading and writing support for Grades K-5
INSTRUCTION DELIVERY MODELS FOR EIP Reduced Class - The combination of EIP students with regular education students in smaller class sizes. All instruction is provided by the classroom teacher. Pull Out - Students are removed from the classroom for small group instruction by the EIP teacher. Push In – The EIP teacher goes into the regular classroom to support and provide instruction for EIP students.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is EIP? The Early Intervention Program is a state funded program designed to provide additional instructional resources to assist students who need a little extra help reaching and maintaining grade level standards. Why is my child in EIP? Children become eligible for EIP several different ways. They can qualify through assessments given and classroom performance. In third, fourth, and fifth grades; students are automatically eligible if they are not performing at grade level standards on the Milestone Assessment. Is this a Special Education Program? EIP is not affiliated in any way with Special Education nor is it a “stepping stone” into Special Education.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How long will my child be in EIP? It varies per student. Children start school at a designated chronological age, but differ greatly in their individual development and experience base. The EIP program is a safety net set in place for children until they are developmentally ready to consistently perform on grade level. This time frame is not set by the teachers, but is based on the progress of the individual child. How will EIP help my child? Not only does EIP reduce the student/teacher ratio, it also provides additional opportunities for small group and individual instruction. The EIP teachers are certified teachers and highly trained to meet the needs of all types of learners. The collaboration and sharing of strategies between the classroom teachers and EIP teacher helps to ensure the success of every child.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who knows my child is in EIP? Only the EIP teachers, classroom teacher, student’s parents, and administrators know that a child is in the EIP program. All classrooms at East Side are grouped heterogeneously and EIP teachers can work with any student in a class. Small group instruction is fluid, and the groupings will change periodically as needed. How can I get more information regarding this program? You can request a conference with an EIP teacher and/or your child’s teacher. The EIP teachers can be reached at 770 -578 -7200 ext. 1113.
