Attendance The primary goal of Head Start is to prepare children & families for school. Attendance is a very important part of the kindergarten readiness goals. The expectation is that parents understand attendance is required. ECKAN Head Start understands there will be times when children will be unable to attend. If children are absent or a home visit needs to be rescheduled, parents need to call and share the reason for the absence/cancellation with a staff member.
Mandated Reporting All ECKAN Head Start staff persons are mandated reporters. This means, if there is any suspicion regarding a child’s well -being, all staff persons are required by law to report their concerns. Staff are trained in recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect.
Parent Background Check Parents are always encouraged to volunteer within the classroom. Kansas Childcare Regulations require ECKAN Head Start to submit a KBI report of all regular volunteers to the state prior to spending time within the classroom.
