CREATING AN AT-HOME “LEARNING ZONE” *Temperature, lighting and noise level are all important to consider on a regular basis *Consider size of the chair or desk… -Do they fit your child’s size? -A cushion or booster on the chair to raise your child high enough and provide wiggle room? -Is there something to rest their feet on so they are not dangling (phone book, step stool, box, etc…)? Optimal is knees 90 degrees with feet on the floor or something under their feet -Is their lower back supported? Are they slouching? *Are materials in reach? (school supplies, water bottle, sweater) -Reduce reasons for child to leave the work area (unless to use the restroom of during a break). *Personalize the work area. Let your child decorate and refresh area during the week. -Pick flowers to have in a vase, draw or put stickers on folders. Have a family photo, put up schoolwork, etc. *Considerations: Space should be comfortable, but NOT too comfortable. (i. e. bed, couch) **Thank you to MDUSD for sharing these important suggestions
