BENEFITS OF EXERCISE: ▪ Everyone can benefit from regular exercise. Kids who are active will: • • • have stronger muscles and bones have a leaner body be less likely to become overweight decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes lower blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels have a better outlook on life ▪ Besides enjoying the health benefits of regular exercise, kids who are physically fit sleep better. They're also better able to handle physical and emotional challenges - from running to catch a bus to studying for a test. GOAL: ▪ Sitting heart rate for ages 10 -15 should be between 55 -75 ▪ Exercise heart rate should be above 115

THREE COMPONENTS TO A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE ▪ The foods you eat fuel your body throughout the day and provide you with the energy you need for your day ▪ Exercise is important to ensure that your body is strong and healthy enough meet the challenges that you set for it. Exercise has a multitude of positive effects on your body, including: Improved heart and lung efficiency, reducing your chances of developing heart disease. ▪ Sleep plays an important role in your physical health. For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke. Sleep deficiency also increases the risk of obesity. PE INSTRUCTIONS All devices are to be powered off before entering the gym. Book bags will go on the top bleacher ONLY! Students should place bags on the top bleacher remove items of value from their bag and report to the locker room to dress out for class. Students should then report to his/her squad line spot.
FIRST PERIOD: ▪ Students stay in the gym following morning dismissal. They report to the locker room to get dress and then report to their squad lines. It is important to be out of the locker room on time otherwise you are marked absent and that will count as a tardy. Students will all be issued PE lockers so you should be locking school uniforms including belt and shoes along with devices, purses, and items of value in their locker. ▪ Google Classroom Code: 8619 w 6

LEARNING/TARGET SKILLS ▪ Proper Attire for exercise: ▪ -Physical education uniform ▪ -Athletic-type clothing (t-shirt, shorts without pockets, zippers, belt loops, sneakers, and socks) ▪ Cleanliness/good hygiene habits (change clothing, wash hands, etc. ) ▪ -Types of injuries (sprain, strain, abrasion, laceration, contusion, blisters, muscle spasm, stitch) ▪ -PRICE: protect, rest, ice, compress, elevate ▪ -Proper hydration (H 2 O, energy drinks) ▪ Weather-related issues (signs of dehydration, heat exhaustion, sun exposure/prevention)
