Classroom Procedures for Class K-3 In order for us to have smooth and successful year, I have established classroom rules, based on the basic standards of character education (Honesty, Respect, Perseverance, Responsibility, and Caring. ). Using philosophies from The Seven Habits of Happy Kids and The Leader in Me, I hope to instill leadership in the children and a feeling of community and togetherness in our classroom. The seven habits are: • Habit 1: Be Proactive • You’re in Charge • Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind • Have a Plan • Habit 3: Put First Things First • Work First, Then Play • Habit 4: Think Win-Win • Everyone Can Win • Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood • Listen Before You Talk • Habit 6: Synergize • Together Is Better • Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw • Balance Feels Best
Homework • All homework assignments will be given on Monday and to be handed in on Friday. • Homework is given to reinforce what has been taught in class each day. It teaches responsibility and allows you to see what we are working on in class. Please encourage your child to complete the homework neatly and to the best of his/her ability. • If your child comes to school without the assigned work, he/she will be expected to hand it in completed the following day. If your child is missing homework for several days or for an extended period of time, you will be notified by me, via note, e-mail, or phone call. Together we can develop a plan to help your child be more successful. • Special homework passes for you are in your child’s folder tonight. Use them when you see fit. We all need a break sometimes!
Star Student • Everyone will get a chance to be the star student • Each day there will be a small portion of the day dedicated to the star student. • Class book, mystery item, pictures to share, book to share • Gives everyone an opportunity to practice speaking to a large group.
Reading at Home • Reading envelopes contain leveled books appropriate for your child to read to you. • Sometimes they ask for challenge books, I will never discourage, but I encourage them to read them with an adult. • 15 -20 minutes, 5 times a week should be your ultimate goal for you child.
Please make sure to sign up for a conference or e-mail me your preference. I am available on the ½ days or before school. I am available some days after school. I will meet with everyone during the school year! Conference Half Days • December 11 th and 19 th • March 22 nd Additional Half Days • June 21 st
Thank you for coming! Working together, as a team, we can ensure that your child has a successful year.
