What are the different types of diplomas from the state of Indiana?

Core 40 Diploma ENGLISH 8 CREDITS MATH 6 CREDITS SCIENCE 6 CREDITS SOCIAL STUDIES 6 CREDITS PE 2 CREDITS HEALTH 1 CREDIT ELECTIVES 11 CREDITS TOTAL 40 CREDITS

Academic Honors Diploma This is a core 40 diploma with additional requirements: • Two additional credits of math/ physics • Six or eight credits of a world language (3 years of 1 language or 2 years of one language and 2 years of another language) • Two fine arts credits (any course in the Art or Performing Arts departments)

Academic Honors Diploma (continued) • Earn a grade of C- or above in courses that will count toward the diploma. • Have an overall G. P. A. of 3. 0 or higher.

Academic Honors Diploma (continued) Complete one of the following additional requirements: • Earn a total of 4 credits in either an AP/ IB or Dual Credit class • Earn a combined score of 1750 or higher on the SAT • Earn a 26 or higher on the ACT * More details can be found in the POS.

Technical Honors Diploma This is a core 40 diploma with additional requirements: • Earn a grade of C- or higher that will count toward the diploma • Earn a G. P. How do I select courses for my freshman year?

Course Selections for the Freshman Year All Freshmen will take the following: § ENGLISH § BIOLOGY § MATH - Students Math placement will be determined in late Spring, based on their performance in the 8 th grade math course and 8 th grade ISTEP scores.

What is the scheduling process for incoming freshmen?

Scheduling Process At each school… 1. Parent Coffee 2. Meet with Students in science classes to explain scheduling. 3. Meet with students individually one week later to check schedules.

SCHEDULING PROCESS Freshman Center Counselors go to the three middle schools and will provide scheduling information during 8 th grade Science classes in the computer labs. During these meetings, students will receive a scheduling worksheet and instruction packet. Students will learn how to use the scheduling worksheet and how to access the on-line scheduling system. They will take materials home and, with their parents, select their 9 th grade courses on-line.

SCHEDULING PROCESS – next step The Freshmen Center Counselors will return the following week and will meet individually with each student, checking the course requests that were selected using the on-line system. Questions will be answered any necessary adjustments will be made to the student’s schedule. After the student has met with the counselor, parents may view the finalized course requests on-line.

Open Window for On-line Scheduling • The online scheduling window opens the day that the HS counselors meet with the students through the following Monday at 10 PM. • Monday after 10 PM the on-line scheduling will be locked so only HS counselors can make changes.

How do I change my schedule after meeting with the Counselor? • A parent should e-mail the freshman counselor for any elective changes or questions about the course requests. • Schedule change requests need to be made by March 1 st. Requests for changes made between March 1 st and May 1 st will be honored only if seats are still available in a class.

Hints for Making a GOOD Schedule • Consider the demands of your courses • Put the electives in the order of importance (so we will know what to drop in case a lab is needed. ) • Take the necessary time to plan your courses for a great 9 th grade year. • Consider your out-ofschool commitments when planning your schedule.

Summer School June 2 - July 3 Students will be notified only if they did not get the class or are waitlisted. No reminders will be sent, so just show up!
