Methodology Readings – text, lab manual + magazine articles Lectures Power. Point slides are NOT a substitute for class notes! Weekly Labs – start next week Lab Registration* Starts Thursday morning at 9 am If you miss a lab you will lose a minimum of 1 participation mark, whether you attend another lab or not. If you attend another lab you must download the Lab Makeup Form to have signed by the TA of the lab you are attending. Your clicker marks will not be transferred over to your regular lab.
Methodology Group Work All group members for all group assignments will evaluate you on: Attendance and preparation for meetings Willingness to cooperate with the group Equal sharing of the workload Quality of the work completed Peer evaluations can result in an adjustment up or down to the group’s assigned grade - do NOT underestimate this! Late peer evaluations (after midnight on due date for assignment) will result in: 10% reduction in the grade assigned if completed within 24 hrs 20% within 48 hrs 30% within 72 hours If not competed - 100% of grade will be lost.
Important Information – read carefully! Attendance at labs is compulsory – missing more than 2 without a doctor’s note will result in 0 lab marks = 40% Academic misconduct is viewed very strictly – turnitin. com Clickers – no sharing allowed! Midterms and finals are controlled access There will be NO deferred midterm exam You must pass one of the exams OR pass on the basis of your individual work Group work is taken very seriously – “firing” Every effort is made to ensure student privacy – student e-mails from university accounts only will be returned Due dates are rigid – late requirements will result in 0
Marking Scheme Group Case Hand-in 10 marks – 2/3 content, 1/3 style Group Marketing Project 20 marks – 10 marks report, 10 marks presentation Participation* 10 marks = preparation (clickers) + consistency + quality Check the guidelines carefully and get feedback from your TA Midterm and Final 30 marks each = 60 marks Total 100 marks Clickers in lectures will be used to assist in determining your final grade

How to Succeed How to Fail… get behind, miss class, don’t participate, slack off in groups, underestimate what is required Check your strategies Preparation – read ahead, prepare for labs and group meetings Notes – own notes, review after, rewrite, ask questions Participation – in labs, groups, and class Study note preparation – extensive vs. intensive Studying – active, studying not learning, prepare as if teaching Exam writing – practice answers, write as if teaching Make contacts – don’t meet me when you need to! Manage your time – individual and group work
