FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL TH MONDAY, AUGUST 26 § All 7 th grade students report to the Competition (Large) Gym to pick up their schedules. § Tables will be set up alphabetically for them to receive their schedules. § All students will remain in the gym until dismissed by Mr. Torres to first period. § All students must have a schedule on bright pink paper to be admitted to first period.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL TH MONDAY, AUGUST 26 § All 8 th grade students report to the Cafeteria to pick up their schedules. § Tables will be set up alphabetically for them to receive their schedule. § All students will report to the forum until dismissed by Mrs. Johnson to first period. § All students must have a schedule on colored paper to be admitted to first period.
ATTENTION: Important Health Notice ALL 7 TH GRADE STUDENTS MUST SHOW PROOF OF: 4 doses of Polio (The 4 th dose is not required if the 3 rd dose was received on or after the 4 th birthday) 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine 2 doses of Measles vaccine on or after the first birthday (separated by at least 1 month) 1 dose of Mumps vaccine 1 dose of Rubella vaccine 3 doses of DTP/DTa. P/DT/Td vaccine (with one dose after the fourth birthday) and 1 dose of Tdap Booster if at least five years have passed since the last dose of a tetanus-containing vaccine 1 dose of Meningococcal vaccine 2 doses of Varicella vaccine on or after the first birthday (separated by at least 1 month) OR provide a statement that your child has had the disease (chickenpox) **State Law does not allow for a child to attend school without up-to-date immunizations. If your child’s immunizations are not completed by the first day of school, they will not receive a schedule and will not be allowed to attend school until required shots are up to date. **
ROOKIE CAMP – 7 TH GRADE • 7 th Graders will learn about daily routines, procedures, and rules at Briscoe Junior High School throughout their first day with their team of teachers. • We feel it is important for the students to start their first day seeing each teacher, locate their classrooms, and navigate the school. • Breathe, stay calm, and we will get you where you need to be!
MORNING ARRIVAL/ AFTERNOON DISMISSAL • Morning: 7: 30 am • If you want breakfast, then you report to the cafeteria upon arrival. 8 th grade students will be released to the Forum and 7 th grade students will be released to the large gym once they have eaten. • If you do not want breakfast, 7 th graders report to the Competition (Large) Gym and 8 th graders report to the Forum. The students will stay in these areas until dismissed. • Afternoon: • Car riders are dismissed first. • Bus riders are dismissed by bus numbers. Students will stay in their 7 th period classroom until the specific bus number is called. • We will have bus information on your child, but to help your child please check your bus information on-line to help with this information. • Bus Information: • Click on “Find My Bus/School” icon on the LCISD website or the bus icon on the district page. • Also please remember to be patient during the first week of school, as elementary and secondary are learning the routes and safety is of the utmost importance. • Buses will only pick up Briscoe and Wertheimer students.
SCHEDULE CHANGES § Please wait until your child comes home with their printed schedule on Monday, August 26 th. § Schedule Change forms will be located by the entrance of the counselor’s office. § The form must be filled out and turned into the counselor’s office by 4: 00 pm on Friday, August 30 th. § Schedule changes will be completed by September 6 th. § *The schedule given out today is subject to change. § *Official schedules will be given out the first day of school, August 26 th.
TEXTBOOK INFORMATION • Briscoe uses digital textbooks. Handouts will be disseminated to students starting on the 1 st day of school with instructions of how to access the digital textbooks. • Parents can request a hard set of textbooks by contacting the appropriate AP office.

STATE OF TEXAS ASSESSMENTS OF ACADEMIC READINESS (STAAR) 7 th grade students will take the Writing, Reading and Math STAAR 8 th grade students will take the Reading, Math, History and Science STAAR § April 7 th, 2019 - 7 th grade Writing and 8 th grade Math § April 8 th, 2019 - 8 th grade Reading § May 12 th, 2019 - 7 th grade Math § May 13 th, 2019 - 7 th grade Reading § May 7 th, 2019 - 8 th grade Science § May 8 th, 2019 - 8 th grade History
PE INFORMATION • Boys & Girls PE Clothes • 7 th grade (White Briscoe shirt) • 8 th grade (Grey Briscoe shirt) • Students will provide their own athletic shorts, tennis shoes and lock for locker. • Shirts are available for purchase in the cafeteria for $10. You do not need to purchase a PE shirt if they are in football. • If you are trying out for volleyball, wait until after tryouts.

BRISCOE JHS CELLPHONE POLICY • Students are allowed to use their phones prior to the 1 st period bell at 8: 15 AM and when bell rings for dismissal at 3: 30 PM. • Students are also allowed to use their phones in the classroom with the teachers permission only. • Cellphones are not to be visible in the hallways, cafeteria, or restrooms during school hours.
