Before School • All students must be screened by Parents before coming to school each day!

School Routines and Expectations BEFORE SCHOOL (Doors open at 7: 00 AM) • Students will enter the building and go straight to their homeroom class. • Parents, do not drop off your child before 7: 00 am. • Breakfast is provided at each entrance, free of charge.
School Routines and Expectations LUNCH • Students will eat lunch in their classrooms. • Due to COVID-19, parents are not allowed to eat lunch with their child. • Outside food deliveries are NOT allowed. • Students can bring their own lunch. • School lunches are free of charge for all students. • There will NOT be snacks to purchase.
School Routines and Expectations WALKERS/BIKE RIDERS • DO NOT walk or ride through the parking lot. • DO NOT walk or ride bicycles through the Kohfeldt or Calvin Vincent Campuses. Trespassing citations will be issued for repeated violations. • Always assume that drivers do not see you! • Students should walk with their bikes while on school property. • Be sure to lock up your bike on the bike rack during the school day. Racks are located on both sides of the campus. 7 th Grade will use the front bike rack and enter/exit through the front of the school. 8 th grade will use the gym bike rack and enter/exit from the Gym area. • ONLY USE THE DESIGNATED CROSSING AREAS ON PALMER– at the lights on the corner of 14 th St. and 21 st St. or the crosswalk in front of the gym with the crossing guards.
School Routines and Expectations WALKERS • 7 th Grade walkers will enter the building using the front entrance. 8 th Grade walkers will use the Gym entrance. All walkers will exit through our side door by Room 211. • Once you exit the building, 7 th walkers will use the sidewalks closest to Palmer. They may either walk right or left. • If walkers need to get to 13 th, they need go past the administration building. • Students will not be allowed to cross over to the City Library.
School Routines and Expectations AFTER SCHOOL - BUS RIDERS • Bus riders will use the rear exit between the pods OR the secondary corridor. • Bus riders need to report directly to the bus circle behind the band hall. • Once bus doors have closed, they will not re-open. • Remember that riding a bus is a privilege that can be lost. Be Polite!

School Routines and Expectations CAR RIDERS • 7 th Grade Car riders will be dropped off and picked up in the front circle drive by the main entrance. • 8 th Grade Car riders will be dropped off and picked up in the Gym Parking lot. • Move forward to the front of the drive before students enter the car. Students must remain on the sidewalk, socially distanced while waiting. • Be careful and never assume that students will see you. • Students need to be picked up by 3: 15 pm.
School Routines and Expectations CAR RIDERS • If you use the former HEB parking lot to pick up or drop off students, please know that we do not supervise this area. • Do not use the City Hall or City Library parking lots as a pick up location. • Property is within 300 feet of school property and behavior issues must be handled just like they are on campus. (Also true for the skate park, library, etc. ) • Texas City PD will be notified if problems occur. • Do not exit the former HEB parking lot using the Blocker circle drive.

School Routines and Expectations AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES • Students who are staying after school for other activities including Band, Choir, Athletics, Tutorials, Drama, Art, Dance, Cheer, clubs, 21 st Century, etc. … Go directly to your afterschool activity! • You may be assigned consequences if you are on the Blocker campus after 3: 15 p. m. , and you are not participating in an afterschool activity.
School Routines and Expectations AFTER SCHOOL – NO LOITERING • What does loitering mean? • Loitering is to remain in an area for no apparent reason; lingering aimlessly. • You may be considered trespassing if you are loitering. • Remember… report directly to afterschool activities, leave campus immediately, or wait outside of the main entrance.
School Routines and Expectations TUTORIALS • Each teacher will have tutorial times posted outside his/her door. • Each teacher will offer a minimum of 1 hour of tutorials a week. • Teachers will begin tutorials before or after school after the 1 st progress report.
Other Important Information • Students have been put on Teams and will mostly travel to each core class with the same students. Blocker counselors have scheduled students to reduce exposure as much as possible. • Blocker staff will be enforcing social distancing and wearing masks. If students refuse to wear masks, they will be forced to go virtual.
Other Important Information • Blocker will have one-way hallways and stairways. Students must always follow these directions. • The class transitions will be staggered, to reduce exposure and to ensure social distancing. • Students will be walking in single file lines to their next class period. • Dismissal will also be staggered. Walkers, bike riders, car riders, and bus riders will be dismissed by announcement.

HERO Information • Blocker Middle School utilizes a Positive Behavior Incentive Program called HERO. • Behavior is tracked through the program and students will earn Sting Points for positive behaviors. • Points are deducted and consequences will be assigned for negative behaviors. • Students will have an opportunity to redeem Sting Points every nine weeks! • Parents are encouraged to sign up for HERO and receive notifications.

Behavior Management Plan For small classroom or hallway infractions, the following steps will be followed: 1. Warning 2. Parent Phone Call 3. Parent Conference 4. After School Detention 5. After School Detention 6. Office Referral
Other Expectations BACKPACKS • Backpacks may be used, but they must be able to hang on the hook under the student desks. If it does not fit, the teacher may ask you to keep your backpack in a different area of the room so that others do not trip. No rolling backpacks allowed without a doctors note. • We do not require clear or mesh backpacks.
Other Expectations STUDENT ID’s: • Students must always WEAR their school ID on a lanyard around the neck. Points will be deducted for failure to wear your ID at school. • If a student does not have an ID, a temporary one will be distributed to them along with a consequence. ID stations will be set up in each POD, Fine Arts area, and the Gym. • Student IDs must be worn to all extracurricular events (Blocker and TCISD). • Replacement ID’s are $5. If a students need a replacement, they need to let their homeroom teacher know. • Do not give your ID to other students!

Other Expectations CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONICS • From 7: 00 a. m. – 3: 00 p. m. , your cell phone and other electronic devices must be OFF and OUT OF SIGHT. • School phones are available in the front office. • Staff members will collect student cell phones and other devices if they remain on or students use them without permission during the school day. A parent will then be required to come and pick the item up in the office and pay a $15 fee. • We are 1: 1 campus, so cell phones will not be needed for instructional purposes. • Students need to bring their laptop to school everyday!
Other Expectations ABSENCES • Come to school each and every day! • If you are absent, turn in an excuse note to the front office on the day you return to school. Virtual students need to have a parent email Lmullen@tcisd. org. • Be sure to get a note if you go to the doctor, dentist, orthodontist, or court. Virtual students can scan the note in an email. • If you have excessive absences, you will have to make up time or attend summer school in order to promote to the next grade. • If you have excessive unexcused absences, you will go to truancy court.
Other Expectations EXTRACURRICULAR EVENTS • Be involved in our school! Support our teams and Fine Arts programs! • Remember that you represent Blocker at all school activities and events. • Social distancing and masks will be enforced. • You will be asked to leave if behavior or language is inappropriate. • Discipline consequences will be issued.
