Welcome to Beginner Keyboarding

Technique and Speed • Technique and speed are the two main areas we will focus on. • Technique – How to type • Speed – How fast you type • Each lesson will reflect your technique progress and will be graded. • You will complete a timing/timed test periodically throughout the 9 weeks. • Your goal for the 9 weeks is to key 20 words per minute.

Micro. Type 4 • Micro Type is the program we will use to learn proper keying technique. • Each lesson teaches two new keys and the proper reaches. • There are 20 lessons that will be completed.

Grading • Each student will be assigned two lessons per week. • Lessons will be graded at the end of the week, finished or not! • It is important that you give your best effort. • You will also be graded on typing speed.

Our NEW Computers • These machines are very important to your learning opportunities in this class. • If you break any part of the equipment you will have to pay for a replacement. – – Key covers Mouse pads Headphones $15. 00 $20. 00 $5. 00 $20. 00 • You will be assigned to one computer station and if anything is wrong with it when you enter the classroom it must be reported immediately.

Lab Rules • Gum and candy are NOT allowed unless given permission. • Class time will not be used to go to the restroom! Take care of that before you get to Connections. • You must bring your Agenda to class everyday! • Nurse visits will be in the case of an EMERGENCY ONLY!

INTERNET RULES • No internet without teacher permission on special occasions or for research. • Do not ask when you finish an assignment. • NO chats, email, or inappropriate websites • You will loose privileges if you do not follow the AUP as stated in your agenda.

Keyboard Covers • Keyboard covers MUST be used at all times!!! • If caught not using them you will be given a warning for the first time • Next time will be Lunch Detention!!

Your job… • You must remember your login and password and use it to get started every day. • Take care of the computer equipment. Report any problems to the teacher. • Complete assignments without disturbing other students!

Your job… • At the end of every class return papers to designated area. • Push chairs under table and keep work area trash free. • Do not touch anything on the backside of the computers (wires, plugs, etc. )…You will receive an immediate office referral. • Do not place foreign objects into the computers or open the CD drives.

Keyboarding AGAIN? ? ? • If you do not complete all 20 lessons and type at a speed of 20 words per minute or more… • You will have to repeat Keyboarding for a second 9 weeks before the end of the year. • Do you best the first time, so you don’t have to take the class over again!

Remember… Keyboarding means NO EXCUSES!!
