Welcome to AS Textiles We are Textiles and we are fabulous!

Natural Forms Your AS course consists of working through a collection of basic skills that you will present in a sketchbook, then one major project based on natural forms that will culminate in the production of a corset that links together all of your investigations and research. In support of this I am asking you to use your time from here and over the summer to build up a bank of photos, drawings and collected images (cuttings from magazines/downloads etc. ) that will support your major project. This is the perfect time of year to be collecting images from your gardens of all the beautiful summer flowers that will be emerging over the next few months, so do lots of drawings or take pictures-both of these qualify as primary sources for your research. Don’t worry about every drawing being your best ever, keep them all as they will also show progression over time.

Natural forms project research Another useful thing you can do is spend time looking on the internet to research designers that have been influenced by nature. There are lots of these, and I can give you some pointers if you get stuck, however, I would prefer you to spend the time doing this for yourselves, as this also helps you to gain an understanding of your own tastes and preferences. Hope this doesn’t sound like a lot, and enjoy yourselves with it. Experiment with different drawing styles and materials if you have them to hand. All the best.
