Geography of Greece Peninsulas • Peninsula – an area of land nearly surrounded by water • Attica – wedge shaped peninsula that juts into the Mediterranean Sea. • Peloponnesus – large peninsula which lies to the southwest of Attica

Agriculture of Ancient Greece • Land is not very fertile • Made a living from the few fertile valleys & the sea • Climate was challenging – Summers: Hot & Dry – Winters: Wet & Very Windy – Fields were dry in the summer and soaked with rain in the winter

Agriculture of Ancient Greece • Greek farmers raised crops & animals well suited for the environment • Wheat & Barley to make bread • Olives & Grapes were major crops • Raised sheep, goats, & cattle

Trading • • No large surplus of grain Travel on land was difficult Sailing became a way of life Sailors traveled as far as Egypt to trade • Olive Oil was one of the most prized exports
