Welcome to Accelerated Reader
What is Accelerated Reader? Last year average reading ages improved by 15 months over the school year. Over the summer reading ages continued to improve….
STAR Reading Tests Taken every half term A series of comprehension and vocabulary questions A test that adjusts to the performance of the child Outcomes of the test: • A child’s reading age • A ZPD (books suitable for the child to read)
Book Selection Your child will be able to read books within their ZPD from the library. The books in their ZPD will be appropriate to their reading age. Difficult enough to keep them engaged, but not so difficult that they become frustrated. e. g ZPD 2. 6 – 3. 2
Book Quizzes Book quizzes will provide data on whether your child is accessing and understanding the material they are reading. The quiz will be 5 -10 questions taken 24 -48 hours after finishing the book.
Reading Targets Children will have a points target to reach half term. Each book is worth a number of points. The longer the book, the more points it is worth. The more children read (and score on their quizzes), the more points they get.
